If it had a sooner release date I'd be all over this. I am very pleased to see MIPS implementation on a porable device as well as NURBs and MPEG4

Contrary to its seemingly blase reaction, you can be sure Nintendo is very concerned about this move by Sony. Nintendo's last remaining stronghold will come under assault by yet another participant. If you thought Nintendo's future wasn't bright before, well...it just got darker.

Damn...I wish it could play PSX or even PS2 games, but that seems unlikely...

Hardly. I'm no Nintendo fanboy, but they've beaten every comer in the hand held market, which is driven by average moms and dads, not gamers. Sony can only hurt Nintendo if they do the 2 things the others never managed - have a low, or at least competitive price, AND have a ton of games people want to play. Fail to do one of those, and they'll lose.

Nintendo hasn't been putting out that many great games for the GBA in my opinion. I think that's their biggest problem. They manage to keep afloat by updating Pokemon and YuGiOH (?) titles.

Sony needs some quality games when it comes out.

mcs328 play advanced wars for GBA and tell me that isnt a good game, rocky isnt bad either... hell if you want they have updated versions of mario that look pretty dam good, im not much of a handheld player but these games arnt bad, plus the prices have droped a bit and the SP though it is small on the hands has a great looking screen.

Actually I do have advance wars. I'm waiting for the sequel. The prices have dropped to 30 which is great but the last game I bought was Puzzle Fighter (which freezes up) which is better than Tetris Worlds.

The SP is nice but you do need small hands. I saw a GBA style grip you can attatch to the SP.

I think the really great games for GBA are few and far between.

I have to agree that it's not going to be easy to over throw Nintendo in the handheld ring, but Sony could do it with the right games. I would say that although there are soem great games on the GBA, there's not enough of them.

Sony is going to try to cram too many features into their portable system, which will drive the cost up and prevent a key market (children) from being able to own the system. If you're going to make a portable gaming system, isn't it best that it only plays games? If I want an MP3 player or a digital camera or a taser gun, I'll buy one separately, thank you very much.

I wish I had a GBA slash taser. Oh, the delicious confusion...
