    Cool

if you check out totallyfreepaging, you will see an offer for free lifetime pager service, but you do have to pay for the actual pager and activation. If anyone is still looking for some form of portable contact (as i obviously was, as made clear by the fact that i brought my friend's phone to E3), this deal seems fairly cool. I bought an alphanumeric pager with an inflated price tag(the more expensive of the two they offer) because i foresee that the paging service would cost more than that over the course of my life.
Who among the apex crowd will come by and find me an even better deal on a pager (too late for my good, but you can always introduce someone to a deal they never thought of and end up helping them with something they want) to make me feel stupid? If you need a specific price tag to beat, the total price after shipping, tax, and activation came to about 113 bucks. Well, I hope that this deal is decent; i'm not really sure.

ps - apparently they tack on short ads at the end of your alphanumeric messages and e-mails, but i can survive ignoring those.

this seems like a pretty good deal (will probably sign on myself).

The posts have moved down the list fairly fast today, so I thought I'd just bump this one back to the top in case it got past anyone...

Not bad, but most cell phones offer internal pagers nowdays, and is it nation wide? Also good idea on the bump up, half the deals and comments I posted disappeared in 5 minutes... It is now a race to check deals, I think APEX is seeing the traffic he invisioned, ie. the post in deals to see action in the fourms...

    Question

Too bad you can't just use your own pager w/out paying them, since you can get a basic pager free now for buying different things.

There was a lot of talk about this free pager
    service a few months ago.

I wasn't sure about it because I didn't see a lock at the bottom of my screen when it asked for a credit card number.

Did anyone get one? How are they?

    Thanks.

I'll sign up if people think it's worth it.

I have one comment about the cell phone thing. Doesn't your phone have to be on to get the page, without checking voicemail, and you need to check it. THe phone does not beep when it gets pages? Is this correct?

    Thumbs up

Hey guys. I bought a pager that included lifetime paging, with voicemail. So far it works. I have had it for almost a year and so far it is stil working. I think it is a great deal for $50.oo.

    Unhappy

My friend has that pager from that totallyfreepaging thing. He says that the ads arent really intrusive, because he usually reads them when he is in the restroom. I've seen the pager, and it's pretty small for an alphanumeric, and its pretty good. the thing that i dont like is that you have to first dial a 800 number...then you have to enter an extension number, another 5 digits. then you can leave your message. You can also do it on the web too, which is pretty cool.

I have a Nokia 5120i, and messages of up to 160 characters can be sent to the phone by calling the phone (you can pick pre-typed messages or even have a nice lady transcribe your message on the spot, a *damn* cool freebie), e-mailing the phone, or using a webpage. Messages can be up to 160 alphanumeric characters (a bit short). If the phone is on and is in a digital service area (I've never not been in one, I'll have to go to Texas or something to find an analog-only place), the messages will go to the phone - if not, CellOne attempts to resend them at varying intervals up to a week I believe. One other cool feature is that the 5120i and the 6120i from Nokia can reply, forward, and send messages from the phone, though if you're not good with keypad entering it could be tedious.
