    Star Wars Galaxies? Anyone interested

Well they finally released the NDA on the game and all the beta testers are pouring out info. It comes out June 26th and I just wanted to see if anyone was interested in this game. I am gonna give it a try and see if I like it. It has potentional but looks to be a bit different than most MMORPG's.

Anyways if anyone else is playing we should meet up in game when it finally comes out.

It seems like a cool game, but the buy in price is a little too steep for me.

Maybe if the price comes down a bit and subscription gets a little cheaper, then maybe I'll check it out.

At this point, that is exactly what it is. Nothing more.

Sweet! Im going to try to grab a copy tomorrow, if anyone else is going to play, lets pick a server and start from there...

I want to be a jedi (like everyone else), but heard if you die thats it, and it takes tons of time and dedication.

Maybe a Bounty Hunter will do.

I'm waiting for a couple of reviews and some word of mouth. I've been burned with other mmorpgs so I'm going to take a more passive approach this time. Maybe wait to after the first patch to see if everything goes to hell.

    **cough**shadowbane**cough**

yea, even after beta testing games like Shadowbane, I still catch my friends tempting me into buying it...

Guess I have to find out the hard way...guess thats why Im on the game staff eh?

lol What happened in Shadowbane was hilarious. Guys teleporting mobs into the middle of towns or something. Having the mobs run amock at regen spots was funny. Have they prosecuted the offenders yet?

I couldn't believe the mass chaos that was. When I read that wired article about it I forwarded that to a few other MMORPG players and a couple game developers I know - apparently they got a lot of evidence and know who it was. Something will be coming very soon.

For some reason I think I would play this even if it was Everquest with Star Wars skins.. for atleast a little while.. The bad thing about everquest is the repeatativeness.. which they claim star wars is getting rid of (the fighting in one spot til this level.. etc etc) .. Part .. so.. I guess we will see

out today I am gonna try it out and see how it goes. From what people are posting on their boards though the account sign up process is swamped at the moment...

Just gotta finish work here then give it a try.

I havent picked a server but if Blitz and Thesifer are gonna play we should all meet up on the same server.

10 servers at launch, 20 total. 10 chars per account.

Seem to be some problem with IE, everyone who tries mozilla 1.3 gets in within the first few tries

The servers are down atm as they are working on an oracle problem or bug...

From what I played, I had more fun in the 20 mins runing around mos isly (cant spell it) than I had beta testing and playing DAoC + Shadowbane.

Right after I played the tutorial (suggest you do), I spawned and ran into the cantina... SOO COOL! They had the little alien guys playing music and dancing, guys drinking, at the bar, etc etc. And then I began to venture around town and heard blaster fire. Of course I ran to see what was happening! A THIEF! He was runing away as 4 people + me began to fire at him as he stole from Jabba the hut (said on his name he did so), and it was a thrill. Blaster fire blazing, lasers flying everywhere! Cant wait till I try out the pvp...

I am impressed thus far, and cant wait till the servers come up again. (probly wont happen till tomorrow)

but remember, everquest had login problems for 2 weeks, and shadowbane..ugh dont go there.

At least we got to play a little today, or I did...

p.s. haha! after comming from Shadowbane, I noticed a big difference in SWG so far.... no lag!

ha yeah pretty much the same story for me blitz. I got on, ran around and saw the town and some guys shotting animals. It all looked really cool and I was having fun but now the servers are down.

Oracle database problem from what I have read. Oh well I'll head off to bed and maybe sneak some playing in at work.. heh

I'm on Lowca by the way, from what I can tell it is an "unofficial North East Coast English Server"

Funny, I've read nothing but bad things at AT etc. Really buggy and almost impossible for someone to level to Jedi (good IMHO). Frys has it for I think $10 off tomorrow but will have to check.

I'm against paying a monthly but I'd like to try this out.

Oh - this isn't very good news...

    Linkage

Star Wars Galaxies (referred to as SWG from here on out) is a culmination of false hope, empty promises, and over hyped delusions of grandeur. What could have amounted to a fantastic world in where you can take the role of a hero in the Star Wars Universe that a lot of us have grown to love through the old movies, or even the new; turns out to be an utterly rushed disappointing disaster of epic scale in the MMOG genre that leaves the player paying $14.99 a month for the developers to finish the game they had hyped oh so many years ago. As far as I am concerned, this title will go down in history as the worst MMOG launch ever known to mankind. And unfortunately, it takes a verifiable and powerful Star Wars license down right with it. Read on, and you will see what makes this game the pure disappointment it has become. Not only from a game systems stand point, but also from a plethora of bugs, and lack of content from a rushed release.

    ....
    ....
    ....

In conclusion, Star Wars Galaxies could have been a fantastic game if led by the right company. Sony Online Entertainment has been riding the coat tails of success from a game they never created. EverQuest. Other than that, about the only thing they have shown is that they want to continue charging people monthly fees to finish what should have already been finished when they bought the game. Lucasarts didn't help any with this one, for at the very least they could have waited until the server stability issues died down before announcing a full release. All in all, what could have been a great title leaves anyone wanting a Star Wars Universe to partake in feeling utterly let down, empty handed, and out $50.00. This will go down in history as one of the most over hyped and under delivered titles in gaming -- and will most likely put the final nail in the coffin for Sony Online Entertainment with regards to it's customer base, which will undoubtedly hurt future sales in anything else software related. If you still have an inclination to pick this up, wait for 6 months and let them get in the features they promised to make the game even remotely exciting. For the love of the gaming community itself, it's time people started talking with their wallets and stopped giving the impression that releasing software this horrid -- is acceptable to the gaming public because of a successful movie license. You have seen other Star Wars games fail, and you have seen others succeed. I guarantee you, this one has now surpassed Force Commander in the bottom of the pile for Star Wars titles. Stay far away if you value gaming, value the community, and value your money. Let Lucasarts and SOE finish this on their own dollars before they start nickle and diming you to death to actually create the game for you as you pay.
