Anyone miss the days of the old BBS systems? I remember the day a few BBS's started connected to each other for mail and such. now that was sweet.

there are a bunch of old BBS' (And some new ones) if you are willing to look. I was obsessed with the old LoRD and Usurper and Trade Wars 2002 games, so I started doing some google searchs and found that there are a bunch of telnet bbs' out there that still have these games.Originally posted by revil

Believe it or not, but I still have an old version of Wildcat! BBS in my archives (I once was a SYSOP for a local community board in the Sacramento area).
I have a few copies of Major BBS and some Digiboards lying around here somwhere.
I still kinda wanna start my own MajorBBS... and run MajorMUD on it .. but its rather expensive to get all the software.. and no one is really selling it (licensed - legal).. So.. I will wait a bit.. and get a place.. there is still a pretty good player base for MajorMUD.. I was obsessed with it forever... and still play it when I can (as in not underway) ...
I loved LORD and Usurpers as well. I posted this link in the GAmes forums a while ago and no one seemed to care...but here it goes again: http://lotgd.sourceforge.net/ , it's a web-based ersion of LoRD that is quite true to the originalOriginally posted by Nija

I used to run a BBS in the So. Cal (30 miles north of Mexico) area and i was suprised to see that I had over 400 users.. That is until my step dad found out his 13 year old son was running an "adult" bbs and charged people 20 bux for 30 months...

I remember playing alot of MajorMUD and TeleArena.. had so much fun back then.. and as for Major bbs, yeah the company that made it is no longer in business or something.. I know the old owner/sysop for a board that was located here in sac, and I think he said he still owns the licenses for his board, but can't find his software... I think he needs to get on the ball and get that board back up.. all of the oldskooler's would pay to go back I would think.. and with telnet now widely available, you can have many many users...
until i got unplugged...

They have like 5 or more BBS's running.. telnet.big12.com I think is the telnet address.. There is another one running out of Somewhere between LA and SD .. Called COFFEEBBS.. they have a lot of users that on.. something like 50-70 At a Time.. coffeebbs.com ...
I used to play there.. before Westpac... and There is still a userbase for BBS's if you go and check em out .. Although a lot of them arent really THERE .. they script mud.. to level their characters.. and play a few times a week or so..
I was a co-sysop for Kingmont Observatory and a part-timer for Gold Country. Kingmont was an old-style DIAL-IN website. He had 2 HST 9.6k then later 14.4 and even later 28.8k modems before he took it down and went onto the web. He doesn't have anything on right now, but has a huge amount of space and aviation-related programs and images.Originally posted by kain9i6

I also had my own for a while, but my parents got tired of paying for the phone line and I had to bring it down (ran on my Commodore 128!)
I think over again
My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.
And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:
To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.
-old Inuit song
I want to start my own.. but first im gonna start a website.. and see if i can get anyone to go to that.. before I attempt with an expensive BBS
