Thread: Keep the inside of your case neat.

Ok, maybe neat isn't the right word because the inside of my case is still a mess but it is neater. All you have to do is go to your local auto parts store and pick up some of the flex tubing used to cover the wiring in the engine compartment. It comes in all different sizes. Here is how it looks with the tubing installed.

It helps keep the tubing in place if you use some electrical tape on each end but it isn’t necessary. You can also put this over your ide cables as I have done if you want. All you have to do is make them square. Just count off five wires and then split the cable between the 5th and 6th wire, then count off five more and split between the 10th and 11th wire. Continue this until all the wires are done. You will end up with eight strips. Then neatly stack them on top of each other and use tape to keep them in a square. I want to point out that this will shorten the cable slightly so if you have any cables that just barely reach don’t do this to them. Some people might be worried that having all the wires so close together could create some kind of interference. I haven’t had any problems and have read other tutorials on the web (I can't remember where) that also said this wasn't a problem. I have not, however, heard any information about the effects of doing this on ata66 cables so I have only done this to my ata33. I imagine it would be safe but I don’t really feel like wasting a cable right now if it doesn't work.

Why do all this? First of all it looks nicer and second in theory it should allow your fans to do a better job of cooling your case by helping to eliminate airflow obstacles.

    Badfish,

That is so boss its not even funny- I am going to do that to my rig, what are those blue clips around to make the flex tubing hug the walls?? How did you mount those?

Those are just like little zip ties I found in the garage. The only difference is you can unhook them and use them again. Regular zip ties would work just was well though.

    Badfish,

I did that 2 my case and I use 1/2 inch flex wasnt too hard only i Have more fans and devices so I cant decide if its neater or not cause, now i have alot of flex in there. Oh well, I tried, I guess it looks neater. Neat idea. For my fan wires I actually used 1/4 inch Vinyl tubing that i cut down to the middle. Worked good-great idea, but i notice you have very little in the way of devices, so maybe the reason mine looks crowded is cause i have alot more of devices
