sorry about this, but this is probably a dumb question.
i'm trying to get outlook express to read my hotmail account. however, when it asks for the type of email account, the only selections i can choose are pop3, and hmtl. i can't choose http. does anyone know how to fix that? thanx in advance.

I think you are talking mail servers here choose pop3. Setup will tell you exactly what you need to do. I get my yahoo mail thru outlook.

As far as I know, certain free internet services do not let you grab mail using email programs like outlook. They want you to log into their own servers so that they can make some money off of you through pageviews.

well, apparently, msn's faq section has a section on how to use outlook to check your hotmail. and the directions say to click on http for the server type. my other computer allows me to choose between pop3, html, and http. however, this one is not giving me an option for http. so i don't know what's wrong. i wrote msn, but still have not received reply.

Outlook express can import your mail from Yahoo, hotmail etc. You can actuall do this, I have done it and it works. It actually just forwards a copy from your hotmail account to your outlook account. (this of course will work as long as your outlook account is your local isp account). I am at work right now we dont use outlook here, I will get the answer up tonight. BTW-Outlook or express?

Personally, i set it up as an .html address and it works fine, the only problem is it takes a while for the messages to delete(a couple days) I'll send u the actual address if u need it. E-mail me with your questions

    Hey RoniMan,

There is a way to get OE to get your mail directly from Hotmail without forwarding it. You need to be using the latest version of OE (5.0 - it ships with Internet Explorer 5). When you make a new account & enter your Hotmail address, it'll automatically recognize that it's a Hotmail address & prompt you for the HTTP server (which it fills in for you anyway).

This will not work with version 4 or below of OE - it's a new feature with 5.
