Thread: Gamecube pricecut?

  1. #1

    Question Gamecube pricecut?

    http://www.the-magicbox.com/gaming.htm

Read a news blip that it might get cut to 100 bucks in September which is the price of the GBA SP.

BTW...are they redesigning the PS2 into a new form factor like they did for the PSX. I heard it supposed to be smaller, come with the ethernet/modem module built and be more DVD navigation friendly.

Glad I sold mine for $175 a week before they dropped to $150.

Not exactly. Sony is releasing a device called PSX (not related to the first playstation). It's basically PS2.5, as it contains a DVDR, Hard Drive, TIVO features , TV Tuner, USB port, Ethernet port, Memory Stick drive...all these bells and whistles except for new game hardware.

But it's not like a PSOne redesign.

Ah I see. Going to make the PS2 more media-centric. Hmmm...a tv tuner inside would eliminate some video processoes from Viewsonic and the VCR. A good idea...we'll see in 2004.

Nintendo needs to do something. The GameCube sitting at $150 next to its rivals costs too much imo. I'm surprised they haven't cut the price already {like at E3}. Going down to $100 may be too much. Perhaps a $20-30 price cut.

I doubt a $20-30 price cut will entice people to buy the cube. They really need to drop the price to a nutty level, like $99.

Yeah the GC looks doomed. They need to ring in some Pokemon ppl or some Yu-Gi-Oh type games since that's their fanbase. Something spectacular. Maybe they shouldn't have gone the non DVD playable propreitary CD game disc format.

    Ahem...excuse me?? I'm a fan and I don't like pokemon or YuGiOh...

Anywho, I wouldn't say their doomed, I mean look at their line up of great games:

    Zelda: Wind Waker
    Metroid Prime
    Mario Sunshine
    Pikmin
    Star Wars Rogue Squadron
    Super Smash Bros Melee
    Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
    Mario Golf
    F-Zero GX
    Viewtiful Joe
    Eternal Darkness
    Animal Crossing
    Star Fox Adventures
    EDIT: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

It's a good line up that actually beats any Xbox-exclusive list of games and challenges any PS2-exclusive list of games (although PS2 would win). I would say, though, that the Cube will never be half as popular as the PS2.

Btw I think Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh fans would more likely gravitate to the Xbox. Such fans are usually kids and they usually like what the stars and famous people like and that's usually the Xbox. Cube fans are usually those who grew up with Nintendo or are hard-core Nintendo fanboys who are...well...kids too...

anywho...it's a good platform. You should try it if they drop the price low.

i think nintendo is more of a "party" game system. they have games that's better suited in a group setting. mario kart, smash bros, f-zero, it's "more fun" with lots of people playing together. yeah, i know the other two systems have similar type games (eg. halo) but the "fun" factor is still there for nintendo. IMO.

I agree. Those games are why I bought gamecube over PS2. I've played Metroid, and Zelda and they are such awsome games especially if you know the story of where they are comming from. Now the only game that Gamecube needs is Grand Turismo.

I will be mildly pissed if GameCube drops their price.

I stand corrected. However compared to the library of games to PS2, Nintendo is lagging.

Why would u be mad if the GC got a price cut?

    I agree.

I only ever play consol games if other people are there too. Otherwise, it would just sit and collect dust.
