WinME download

I downloaded WinME in 28 small .rar files. I uncompressed them then I got one huge .bin file and a 1K .cue file. I burned them onto a cd but now I don't know what to do with it. Any suggestions?

You have to use a program that specifically uses bin/cue files to make a cd. Don't just burn the files directly to a CD-R. I think Win-CDR will work correctly.

I also have ME, and it's pretty cool. There's not a huge difference from 98 visually, but they added some cool features such as built-in support for Internet sharing - you can run your own DHCP server right from ME.

does it crash often or is as unstable as win 98?

Never has crashed. Of course, my 98 install never crashed, either. Perhaps you're overclocking too high?

Throw away that disk stonedwheat! ME is useless. MP7 sucks big donkey balls and for ie 5.5. . . Windoze really screwed around here. They're gonna have a big service pack out probably for it when it is officially released. ME is just a stupid POS that should be labeled "windows 98 third edition." Very decieving little thing, looks like W2K but sucks a$$. Stick with 98 se or W2K.

it all goes back to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" adage. NEVER, I repeat NEVER, install a new windows if your current OS is working fine.

You guys are whimps! I bet you all have little Linux boxes running. Grab PQ Magic or whatever and chunk of a piece of that precious 40GB HDDs you all have and install Win ME. It ain't great but it is about 10-15% faster for OpenGL than an equivalenet WIN 98SE machine.

The only downside. no more dos. it's gone, finnito, I have a hack anyday...

Uh, do you mean Windows 2000 instead of WinME? WinME is crap, its just a small service pack from win98. All ms did was make it look like W2K but not perform no where near it. No apology necessary, I run Linux too. Of course none of my clients even consider it a serious operating system. Despite what the press says, they cannot break (Microsoft) or make (Linux) an operating system. At this level it's not about performance or even reliability (Novell would win here). It's about cost vs support. Because of Microsofts dominance it is very easy to find support for the OS and Back Office products. Go ahead, find me a Linux Server Application expert.

As far as Windows ME goes, you're right it is a joke, so is Windows 2K BUT (and that is a big but) Windows ME is faster where it counts, open gl, if you want the highest frame rates possible than it is you're only choice. Same goes for Win 2K if you want the most widely, easiest to use and simplest to configure OS in a LAN/WAN environment you gotta go 2K.

Linux will never be more than a back end blip. I like to think of it as the Amiga, a good idea but you gotta be hard core to love it. Remember corporate america consists mainly of people you despise (ie: Don't know what it means to "right-click").
