    Wood for Guitar

    Just curious about something

I've been playing guitar for some time but I never really know anything about the type of wood that is used to construct it. What's the best sounding type of wood for the guitars? And what type of sounds are produced by the different wood used?

me and my roommate had a little debate but we didnt know anything so it got nowhere

    here you go...

the most common is mahogany. koa makes the sound really...bright and crisp. personally, i like rosewood for its strong bass...gives the sound that extra umph, to me at least.

there's not a single best sounding wood for guitars. just like there's not a best sounding pickup, a best action height, a best fret type, etc. it all depends on your personal preference...like what sound you're going for and stuff like that.

personally i have nothing against a good mahogany body with maple top, with 2 seymour (butts) duncan humbuckers on a double cutaway

for classical i'm down with mahogany back and sides with a spruce solid top.
say "hi" to lumbergh for me

    I'm kidding

so do they plant trees just for making guitars? like tree farmers? cuz they do it with other things, like fish

i used to be a luthier - i owned a shop where i built, repaired, modded, and hotrodded guitars for a living about 10 years ago. did it from 1990-1994, until i moved. theres not much money in it then, and around here, its even worse, so i quit.
maybe ill have my own guitar shop again someday...luthery is the perfect marriage of guitars and woodworking, two of my former loves.

experience is something you just cant google...
teach me how to set up my guitar! pleease!!!!!

I have a really cheapo electric that has its action screwed up....
It's too cheap to bring it into a real guitar store....to get it done for me..
I've played with the truss rod with moderate success....
    how can i fix it?
