I just added a Maxtor 40gig 7200rpm drive to my computer and it keeps restarting without warning. I thought it might be a heat problem but the cpu runs cool to the touch (but both the 40gig and my 18gig IBM get very hot). The only other thing i think it could be is a lack of power. Also half of the time when i try to turn it on it turns on but it doesn't boot up, no picture although the computer does turn on. Recently it has also had problems turning off, when i shut down instead of turning off it restarts. What do you think? Thanks

If you take out that Maxtor hard drive does this problem go away hapoo? You never had this problem before? This definitely sounds like a power supply problem. I would take a look at getting a bigger power supply. I now recommend and use 300 watt or bigger power supplies.

I don't think the ps is the problem, but then again it could be craped up. I have a 250W ps with this running off it:

P!! 400

384 MB ram

tnt2

sblive

hollywood+

ati tv-wonder

maxtor 8.4 GB

IBM 34gxp

pioneer dvd 303s

plextor 8/20

ide zip drive

floppy

adaptec 2940u2w

All this plus both usb ports are taken up. No problems with short power. Hell I probably could get away with a 200watter. You're problem could be the harddrives heating up. Also your ram could be bad now. Give us a little more detail hapoo.

Hapoo, did you see if the problem still happens without the new drive? If so, then it is most likely a ps problem.
