    Win98 Question

How do I disable that stupid login/password stage before getting to the desktop?

If you hadn't entered a password during the install the screen woulnd't show up at all. You should be able to change your password and just leave the new password box empty. Not sure, it's been a long time since I used win98.

Search your hard drive for *.pwl or *.pws (I forget which one). This is the password file. Delete it and next time you reboot, when it prompts you for a password just hit enter at the blank box.

it's not for me DF. My kid's computer and some of his basic programs are not win2k and xp friendly. He is only 2 but he knows how to turn on and off the computer correctly. I just don't think he needs the login prompt. I figured it out in networks using windows login rather than client for microsoft networks.

I can't remember the step by step directions, but try this. Goto control panel-network and choose Family Logon or something similar to that. It's been so long since using 98.

If the machine can handle it hardware wise, upgrade to XP and run the games in XP's Program Compatibility Mode. It allows you to tell the program what OS is running, so you can make the games think you're running 98.

This can fix a lot of problems w/ any computer as long as its not too old

I believe you can also right click an go to properties. There is a compatability tab that can be adjusted to whatever fits your needs...
