    Red face

    Somehow my family's computer got screwed up...i ran antivirus programs, everything norton has & it won't fix it. I was playing around in the control panel in system properties. Under the performance tab, it says that my c: is running in compatibility mode, which reduces system performance. When i click on details, it says that most likely its a problem in my config.sys. I dont know if this will help, but here's whats in my config.sys :

    DEVICE=C:\essolo.sys
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
    DOS=HIGH,UMB,AUTO
    FILESHIGH=80
    BUFFERSHIGH=40,4
    DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CPQIDECD.SYS /D:IDECD001
    SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /P /E:2048

    i wasnt sure exactly what the problem was, but i checked to make sure that at least these files still existed. In addition to this compat. mode prob., the only way i can access my d: is by restarting in dos mode, accessing d:, dir, then restarting windows. I think this is due to the comp. mode problem....but it says my d: is also on comp. mode.

    If anyone knows how to fix this comp. mode problem, or how do fix the d: problem ...could you please help? Perhaps check ur config.sys file using msconfig & let me know if u see any problems. I've tried everything, compaq support sucks, and no one else can help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

    LoadFailed = C:\ESSOLO.SYS
    *i think this is the main problem*

    but i also have a few loadfailed for a few .vxd's such as:

    LoadFailed = ndis2sup.vxd

    this compatibility mode slows the hell out of my computer...& my cd burner won't work at all....would reloading windows help, or is a format needed?

    That should be a TLA. Time for the ol' F.F.R. I would use that all the time.
