Does a switch instead of a 10/100 hub make a speed difference as far a internet go for a 3 computer home cable modem system?
Some people told me yes and others said no.
Whats the the final answer (using cox@home)

Here's the deal. The hub will default to a 10 Mbps connection because of the Cable Modem. Since you are sharing with 3 systems, the bandwidth will go to 10/3 = 3.3 Mbps per system downloads. Since Cox@Home limits your bandwidth, you will probably never see the difference in download speeds between a hub and a switch.
Where you will see the difference is in your home LAN transferring huge files. The switch will default to 100 Mbps full duplex for each system. You will probably never max out the 100 Mbps speed either, though. But I just like bragging about the 8 Port Intel Switch I got for $55.

For that application, as Leon said, no appreciable difference.
