    Ok Leon...if that is your real name! What's wrong with my computer? I get a geometry mismatch error when I install lilo. It is a Seagate 2 gig Wide SCSI on an Adaptec 2940. The OS i'm using is Slackware Linux.

    Heh... Sorry for the delay. Been working the @#^$%#$#^ Graveyard shift here.

    Adaptecs don't like being autoprobed. The cards don't know if that makes a difference. The cards don't have much experience with Slackware, but I know that with RedHat you had to pass kernel options to turn off autodetect. With the 7xxx series Adaptec adapters, you had to pass in this sequence:

    aic7xxx=no_probe

    The crystal ball doesn't know if that's the same for the Adaptec 2940, but you could give it a shot.

    O great Leon of the strawberry squishy clan, many thanks to you.

    Except that it was a partition size problem, not a problem with the controller. It seems that linux wants the kernel located on the first 1024 cylinders of the hard drive for lilo to correctly use it. Who knew?

    ACK! Perhaps, I'm not psychic!

    Anyway, this Forum used to be something else, but it was dead, so sbp suggest this Psychic Forum.

    So is there a particular forum you guys think we should change this to?
