    who here wouldn't like napster?!?!

ohh and as for the ip thing, there is a disclaimer in napster that says that tracing an ip is not allowed, and another thing, even if they had your ip what the hell are they going to do about it, come to 300,000+ houses and take people computers away? i dont think so.

as for Metallica, I think their music is **** for one (sorry just my opinion), they are also *******s, they got their start cause they let people trade bootlegs from concerts and now as if they dont have enough money already they're going after napster.

If anyone is in the music business for the music then they shouldn't give a **** about napster, ever heard the expression "starving artist"? Bottom line is that if you make good music people will buy it no matter what.

seeing how i have a final tommarrow and 2 on tuesday i think i should be going now

i knew about the limp bizkit tour which will rock. hmm it's funny that napster is targeted yet we haven't heard anything about other programs ie scour.net or simba or even irc rooms that specialize in mp3 trading.

Metallica isn't doing the IP searching thingy anymore. And they're banning user names not IPs. if you're really worried, don't share any metallica songs.

Personally, I don't use napster, but my apt mates do. It has done nothing wrong. It's a product of market demand. We the consumer who love music and can't afford more than 1 cd a month have demanded a way to get enjoyable music cheaply. Napster has provided it. If the music industry would make the price of the albums lower, they would see more people buying the cds. Too much of the industry is about money and not enough about music. Mp3s is a way to get music around fast and cheap. Alot of the unknown artists out there use it to promote their own songs. If they can do it, why can't the artists that actually have the money support it as well?

The only beef I have with Napster is that when I have five or more people uploading, my downloading is greatly affected.

I've tried spoofing some people by listing my speed as 14.4 but then you and I know that's a lie. Just look at the ping and you know its a lie, and if there is no ping, even faster. I wish people would just disconnect rather than BS with others. If you don't want to share, LOG OFF!!! Don't clutter the search screens!

If you dont want to share you files with others just set your download folder to new empty folder, once you get the songs you want just dump it out. I used to do this when i had 56k but i just leave it in there now. Whats cruel is when some guy with a 14.4 is downloading and he's almost done and people cut him off , I'm on adsl but i still remember the heartbreak when my 5+ meg file was 95% done and it would get cut off. (these where the days when getright and similar programs weren't out yet)

haha Napster is a program that allows people across the net to share their MP3's with one another. They have terrabytes of MP3's available. I like Napster a lot!
My two cents: I'm a poor ass college student who hasnt bought a CD for at least 5 or 6 years. I started downloading MP3's 3 years ago, and my CD buying habits havnt changed a bit. I think most of us can agree that if CD's were slightly cheaper we would all buy them.
The music industry hasnt lost a penny from me since MP3's have come out...IVE just gained music=) So everyone wins.

yeah...wrapster isn't not the popular...if you search for wrapster in napster you'll find about 50 items, mostly porn...

for those of you who aren't familiar with wrapster:
wrapster takes a file and falsely converts to an mp3 file. now this file can be shared through napster. if you download one of these files, you have to use wrapster to extract it.

    Napster vs. Scour:

The problem I have with scour is that when the search results come up for MP3's, it seems like everybody has copied from a single original source. I also can never get as high transfer rates as I do on Napster. Maybe thats just by chance though.

    Thumbs down

napster is ok, but personally, i dont like it. it REALLY slows down the network here at college.. sometimes it gets to the equivalent of using a modem.. plus, there are hardly any good quality files on napster anyway. they are all 128 and very few are 160 or above. but i just hate it cuz it makes everything so slow. we have a T3 and downloads go at about 2 kb/s sometimes. its really annoying.

    Thumbs up

I personally use Napster as a way to sample the CD. Come on guys, why would you buy an entire CD if there's only one good song (or only one song that you like) in it?
