Is there some sarcasm there, Y2J?

I think the thing Metallica is missing here is the tremendous marketing opportunity they are missing here. Lookit, few people buy their CD's now anyways. What was their last platinum album: Load, I think. First of all, the BEST a group can do is around 10 cents on the dollar, after all the other players take their piece of the pie. Metallica makes their money touring and doing promos. They are losing just a fraction of their income while alienating a ton of fans. They are stuck in the old way to market things. Why not examine Napster and try and figure out a way to make money with it? I'm not talking about user fees, because they have no control over that. What they need to do is come up with some new business plan...it would take a person with a little more time on their hands than me, but it is out there.

I think Napster's cool. Even if they stop Napster, some other thing's going to come up and replace it.

Metallica doesn't stand a chance between Napster. Those in favor of Metallica...you are the few...the proud...the morons.
I understand their point of view...and it does suck...but there is no way to they can do anything about this kind of technology.
I feel for those who got the boot from Napster...tragic

I heard that some of those peope that got booted from Napster didn't do jack. Their names were accidentally placed on the "list."

Speedfreak,
Of course there is sarcasm, metallica always wants more money. Being a huge fan of them (I own 40 Metallica CDs including bootlegs), I respect their oopinion and will listen to them, but I can't see a casual fan caring what Metallica says. This won't stop, one can always find them, unfortunately, on other MP3 sharing servers, like CuteMX. After paying $65 a pop to see them in the summer, they must really be taking this loss of money over Napster too seriously

Metallica can rot in hell. I got banned for three lousy songs. THREE! I can't get back on either. I tried with a new username and got shot out of the air. Even after cleaning all references to Napster out of the registry and searching extensively for Metallica and Napster refernces in the resitry and all storage. New IP did no good either. Wonder if they went as far as to log the mac addy of the NIC? Seems kinda unlikely. Did I miss something?

There's a good interview with Lars on Slashdot today.

Well, Its time you guys realize that Metallica is right. If you had live recordings and bootlegs, they didn't ban you. But you guys should know better than to share Metallica's songs. They work hard to produce an album an deserev to be rewarded. It doesnt matter how much money they've made, what matters is that they want more. We, as loyal fans, deserve to provide them with that. I have over a gig of just METALLICA mp3s on Napster, but they are all bootlegs. I would never share my precious songs for free. They've worked hard to provide a great service, and rightfully deserve to be rewarded for it.

I heard Metallica in an interview on KROQ recently..i dunno if anyone else heard it..but anyways.. that is such bull about them not banning those who had bootleg versions. I have plenty of metallica non bootleg songs and I wasnt banned. What they did is probably searched napster over a weekend..if you werent signed on, you didnt get banned. If you were on, and you had a Metallica song, you were banned. I dont believe for a second that they searched through all 300,000 metallica songs to see which were bootlegged. F Metallica!
-
That is true. They presented Napster with a list of user gathered over one weekend of users with Metallica songs
-
i totally understand Metallica's view on this subject...but i'm just too addicted to MP3s. On another note...does anyone know where those Napster shirts come from? I want one of those almost as much as i want my gotapex shirt.
