On another forum, member Franco once said "It should be no news to you all that you can get just about anything you want on the Net if you know how to formulate the right search criteria." I've always been frustrated by my inability to efficiently find the stuff I want on the internet. Everybody please contribute to this discussion by sharing their knowledge of tips and tricks of how to search and which engines are good for what.

I always use www.dogpile.com which checks with a bunch of search engines. Start specific and then get more and more genral until you find what you are looking for. Also if you are looking for something rather obscure remember you may not find it on a search engine but you might be able to find pages about related topics that will have links of their own to what you are looking for.

ohh yeah, Yahoo search sucks ass cause all yahoo is, is a huge bookmark page; other search engines find new pages by themselves

www.google.com is a great new search engine. You can use quotation marks to tell it that "Bob Smith" must be next to each other instead of finding all the entries for Bob and all the entries for Smith.

one of the best tools for searching the web is copernic2000. go to www.copernic.com and download the .exe today! it searches 10 search engines at once and then compiles the results and ranks the entire search, not just for each individual engine. very nice!!
