there's really no way to tell for sure. people will say that there are devices that can measure the line and tell you if you are being monitored, but it's not true. someone could tap into you at a central office or right outside your house, it's extremely easy, and it sucks. most of the time, you'll get tapped at the phone pole by your house, or the b-box nearest you that your service runs through. it you know where that is, take a walk over, bring your socket wrench kit, and take a look. taps are easy to find, there should be nothing but wires in there.

Not tapped, but eavsdropped on, my neighbors could listen to our cordless phone convos' before the day of digital spread spectrum!!! Now its all 2.4 digital, yea baby

Unless there is software encryption that is modulating at both ends, anything is "crackable" and "hackable". Go to Radio Shack and Fry's and pick up some books and toys and get busy!
