We've had 2 tests, now comes the midterm.

There is a guy with a noose around his neck, hung from the ceiling of a cave. There are no holes in the ceiling of the cave, and no way to climb to the ceiling from inside the cave. There is a BIG puddle of water below the guy.

    How did he hang himself?

Let's see if I can remember this correctly:

You are standing outside of a room that has three separate light bulbs on the inside.
There are three on/off switches on the outside - each one is connected to one of the light bulbs inside the room.
There is no way to peek into the room.
When you are completely done setting the switches, you get to walk into the room. (You don't get to move the switches anymore after that)

How do you determine which switch controls which bulb??

Easy. Flip the first switch on and leave it on for 20 minutes before turning it off. Flip the second switch on. Don't even bother with the third switch by leaving it in the off position. Walk into the room. The light bulb that's lighted is controlled by the switch that's currently on. Feel the two unlighted light bulbs. The one that's warm is controlled by the switch you turned on for 20 mintues then switched off. The cool light bulb is controlled by the third switch which you never flipped on.

This may be to easy for you guys but here is one I heard on the radio a couple years ago.

You are on a cruis ship in a room with no windows (apparently you dont have much money), all you have is a sink, a toilet, your cloths, and a book. How can you tell when the ship has traveled across the equator?

    Nice sbp.
I must admit that took me a lot longer than that to figure out the first time.

The toilet will flush in the opposite direction from the norm, because of the Earth's gravatational pull.

Four people need to cross a bridge at night. (Yes it is one of those riddles ) The bridge will only support the weight of two people at a time and it is impossible for any of them to cross without a flashlight - which there is conveniently only one of.
Therefore, the most efficient way would be for two to cross, then one to walk the flashlight back, two more to cross, one walk the flashlight back and the last two cross finally.

It takes one of them 1 minute to cross the bridge, one of them 2 minutes to cross the bridge, one of them 5 minutes to cross the bridge, and one of them 10 minutes to cross the bridge. When two people walk together, they must walk at the speed of the slower walker; so if the 1 minute guy and the 10 minute guy crossed at the same time, it would take 10 minutes.

They have seventeen minutes to all get to the other side.
(Don't forget the time it takes to walk the flashlight back each time)

Man was swimming when a water-scooping airplane scooped him up with the water to douse the forest fire.

Ok, this one is a bit overused...I think anyways. Maybe some of you won't have heard of it before.

You are in a forest, trying to find your way out and you discover two paths, leading in opposite directions. You know that one path will lead you out of the forest, while the other will lead to certain death.

Now, heres the fun part. There is a man standing there. You know that there are two tribes that live in that forest. The members of one of the tribes are completely honest and always tell the truth, while everything that comes out of the mouth of members of the other tribe is a lie. Since this man is a member of one of the two tribes, he obviously knows which path will lead out of the forest. Not knowing which tribe this man is a member of, you must figure out (by asking him one question) how to get out of the forest.

    Good Luck

    While you're pondering that...

Let us consider the "hole" that exists in modern-day mathematics.
Suppose three salesmen go to an inn to get rooms for the night. The innkeeper decides to charge them $10 per person and the bellhop takes them up to their rooms. At this point, each salesman has paid $10, for a total of $30.00 paid to the innkeeper.
A short while later, the innkeeper feels that he's unfairly overcharged the salesmen and decides to give them part of their money back. He gives $5.00 to the bellhop and instructs him to return it to the three guests. He agrees, but on the way up to the rooms the bellhop realizes that $5.00 cannot be easily split among three people. To avoid any confusion, he decides to return three of the five dollars to the guests and keep two for himself. Naturally, he gives one dollar back to each salesman and pockets the remaining two.
Now, each salesman had originally paid $10.00, for a total of $30.00.
Having each been given $1.00 back, each salesman has now paid $9.00, for a total of $27.00. The bellhop has kept $2.00 for himself.
    $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00....yet we began with $30.00 Where is the other dollar?
