Really depends on where u live to tell the cost... for me, cox@home is 39.95 a month, but their gonna let us buy our own modems from like Fry's which will decrease the charges to 29.95.

I think I should have stayed at college. This 56k stuff sucks. So, I've decided to get cable access. But since I have no clue about cable...

How much does it usually cost?
Do I need to buy a cable modem, or will they provide one?
anyone know of any good deals on this stuff?

ps. I am going to shoot my modem with a shotgun once I get my cable access, if anyone wants pics, just ask...

i was told and i believe i also read somewhere that you DON'T need an existing cable subscription to get cable internet access. as for modem and installation, there are usually promotions that waiver these charges but if not, it'll cost a hefty 300-400 total. monthly access has dropped to $40 i believe.

I have cable access through Time Warner Roadrunner, which is also in select parts of SoCal. I already had a little better then basic caple, so it costs me $40 a month for cable internet. You don't need to have any cable tv access to get their cable internet. The only thing is it will cost $10 more if you don't have any cable tv already. Ny friend got it around the same time as me and is paying $50 a month because he had no cable tv.

I'm pretty sure Cox cable's internet access is $29.95 plus modem rent (like 10 bucks a month). Or you can buy your modem and waive the rent.
