    NSS: Props to Dell

So I had a Latitude C810 that was about 2-1/2 years old, and it turned out to be a lemon. It was a P-III 1.13GHz machine, and the video disply kept dying. Since November, I had the machine worked on 4 times - they replaced the LCD, then the system board, then the video board, then the LCD again, but the problem never went away.

So after repair #4, I called Dell & asked that they swap out the machine for a different one. In case you don't know, Dell's unofficial policy is that if they try to fix the same problem more than 3 times, you can ask for a replacement machine.

So, a box arrives in the mail today, and inside is a beautiful Latitude D800... 1.7GHz Centrino, 15.4" WUXGA screen, DVD/CDRW combo drive, wireless - the works. It's a refurb, but I expected that. Quite an upgrade from an old P-III. Thanks, Dell!

We have a D600 here at the office that I had to get a replacement hard drive on today. Customer service was nice despite the fact that she was kind of hard to understand. Sounded like a Hispanic accent.

    Congrats on the new computer!

They have for quite some time, I think I heard they are also outsourcing to Panama as well.

I recently replaced a C800 with the same D800 1.7 WUXGA as you describe. Absolutely SMOKIN laptop.

Actually, I am on my second D800 since November. Talk about suckage - the first one was stolen out of my office in Early December - about 30 days after I got it. The lowlife thief also got an Inspiron 5100 and a Dell all-in-one printer (still in the sealed boxes) that I'd ordered through a G|A? deal for my son for Christmas. Got a replacement in time to get it to him on Christmas, tho...
