    Computer Kept Resetting

My Dell 400SC kept resetting yesterday. Sometimes it reset when it got the the login screen. Sometimes I logged in and it reset after I launched a program. The oldest component in the computer is the R8500LE video card. I tried it with different RAM (original 128MB PC3200 ECC) and it still reset. Can somebody help me here?

They do not support Windows XP for this computer (PowerEdge 400SC).

I think it might be the video card or Windows just corrupted. I got BSOD every time it reset but I could make out what it said since it reboot so fast.

It's a server line from Dell so Dell only supports Win2K not WinXP. It doesn't come with an OS so I have to use my own.

    I don't think it's overheating since I got BSOD's.

    I am with stupid.

Clean any dust of the the case. Get a vacuum and a can of air, clean in between all the little fins of all the heat sinks. Make sure there is good air flow.

check the ram, a LOT of the sudden reboot of systems has to do with faulty ram.

Do you have a copy of Win2k? Swap out the hard drive and drop 2K on it. If it still has problems it is proven as harware and they gotta fix it. The same with Linux I think.

I tried to reinstall Win2K and I got this error:
"File \i386\ntkrlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 4.

Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."
I can't even format my hard drive with Win2K. I already emailed Dell tech support so I wait until next week to call.

I never encounter this problem before with any other computer I built or bought.

Dell technician came out and replaced the MB, CPU, & RAM after online support couldn't solve the problem. Everything is running fine now and I think the problem lied with either the CPU or MB.

    Thanks everybody for helping.

well, of course the problem should have been fixed. You essentially got a new computer. But thats pretty nice of Dell to do that. I guess they're not so bad after all
