I like RPGs, so I'd recommend you avoid Final Fantasy X-2 as though it were some deadly, infectious disease.

It's a whole lot easier if you name a category of game you'd like to get (first-person shooter, RPG, etc), then you might get some of us to rattle off some titles.

Devil May Cry (1, not 2.) It's pretty hard to get used to the controls, but man, I can re-play that forever. Make sure you look up at gamefaqs all the secret levels 'n stuff. The only game I know of where the difficulty isn't proportional to rubber band AI.

If you're looking for story games, rent the legacy of kain series. Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver were for playstation, but you can play PSone games on ps2. Soul Reaver 2, Legacy of Kain 2, and Legacy of Kain Defiance are all on PS2 and I've heard wonderful things about their storylines. Also more fun to play with a walkthrough.

Metal Gear Solid2 was pretty sweet, but the first for PSone was better.

Can't go wrong with Grand Theft Auto either.

If you're into sports games at all, I highly recommend either Madden 2004 or NCAA football 2004, the learning curve isn't too steep, they have nice graphics, great gameplay, and awesome dynasty/franchise modes.

Yeah, PS2 has the best sports games by far. It's not just the football games, either. Tiger Woods series is great, and so is NBA Live.

I don't exactly know how that makes the PS2 have the best sports games, since all those games are available on all three platforms as well as the PC.

The only sports games that are exclusive to PS2 is the Winning Eleven series (which kicks ass), and the 989 series (which SUCK ass).

The cube has no exclusive sports games.

The Xbox has the XSN series, some of which are really good, i.e. Top Spin, Fever (eh...it's ok), and MAYBE Amped. In any case, it's a bit better than PS2.

I like my Xbox for sports games because EA sports games use tons of memory for Franchises, Profiles, EA Bios, etc and I don't have to worry about space on my Xbox hard drive. It also has slightly better graphics.

Btw if you don't know me, I don't prefer one console over the other. I love all three, but each has its own strength. The PS2's strength (by far) are RPGs, hands down.

So here's my list off the top of my head:

    Xenosaga
Final Fantasy X (X-2 is quirky, but if you ignore that part it's not that bad)
Dynasty Warriors 3 or 4 (mindless fun, but decently cool)
SSX 3 (must have, amazingly fun)
    Need for Speed Underground
    Gran Turismo 3

One thing that is a big plus, as far as the PS2 sports games go, is that it's the only system with the EA games online. I just started playing NCAA 2004 online, and it rocks!
