Anyone else see Dell's new top of the line laptop? ATI Radeon 9700, p4 3.4, daul channel memory and other features, it sure does make my sager look old now.

The First Notebook with 3.40GHz CPU Unveiled

Dell, one of the world’s largest computer makers, announced notebook lineup for gamers and enthusiasts that offers premium performance and stylish look. The machines include hardware that does not only outperform available components for laptops, but runs on par or faster compared to leading desktop systems!

The new Dell Inspiron XPS will include Intel Pentium 4 3.40GHz or Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.40GHz processors and ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 graphics MCM with 128MB of memory, 512MB to 2GB of dual-channel PC3200 memory, 60GB (7200rpm) or 80GB (5400rpm) HDD, UXGA Wide-Aspect 15.4” display along with plethora of connectivity features, such as 802.11b,g/802.11a,b,g WLAN controller, Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB 2.0 ports, FireWire and so on.

Offered for the first time on Dell notebooks, the Inspiron XPS will feature a graphics upgrade option for enthusiasts who want to stay at the top of their game with leading-edge technology. Additionally, the new Inspiron XPS will feature special color covers to personalize the PC.

Dell’s Inspiron XPS is the world’s first company to offer a notebook with Intel Pentium 4 3.40GHz Extreme Edition processor with 2MB L3 cache, ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 graphics adapter, and dual-channel PC3200 memory. However, this is not the first mobile PC to incorporate Intel’s Extreme Edition processors: in late November 2003 a company called Lieberman Inc. also announced a lineup of notebooks to feature 3.20GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition chips.

Intel’s Extreme Edition processors consume around 100W of power – an incredible figure for desktops and pretty unbelievable value for notebooks. The issues Dell and other companies, who adopt Intel’s Pentium 4 Extreme Edition for mobile applications, have to address is not only heat-dissipation, but also power consumption of such chips. A very powerful PSU as well as a battery should be used with the notebook for flawless system operation.

Intel’s Extreme Edition processors consume around 100W of power

good lord!!!! I knew these were considered to be more of a desktop replacement, but with that much power consumption, the thing will have next to no battery life. I read someplace that they are using a 12cell battery for this thing. I wonder what the weight is and the battery life is.

Shouldnt that be 2 separate bullets? It makes it sound as if the battery has the subwoofer, and the battery has incredible sound.

FYI the name of the card is misleading. The card is the best mobile video card you can get but its nowhere near a 9700pro desktop card. Great system specs for someone who just wants to be able to take it places and plug in.
