BEATRICE, Neb. (AP.org) -- A local nursing home didn't have a dog or a cat visit recently as part of pet therapy - it had a donkey.
Buddy moved from room to room at the Beatrice Manor Care Center on Saturday, bringing smiles to the faces of its residents.
"Every now and then we have a volunteer come in with their pets," said Joyce Haas, a staff member in the home's activities department. "It's really good therapy."
Most people bring their dog or cat, Haas said. Buddy, however, is a welcome visitor, she said.
"We do things like this on occasion," said Don Zimmerman of Beatrice, Buddy's owner.
Buddy has visited the Martin Luther Home, Odell High School and other facilities in the area.
"He used to be a little bit afraid of wheelchairs," Zimmerman said. "He's still a little unsure about balloons. He's good about going in rooms," Zimmerman said.
