    Wireless USB Adapters/Access Point

How do these work? Maybe not the right question. From what i've read this is not what I want. I will probably have cable or DSL installed next week. My girlfriend has a lap top. I have a cable modem, and a router. I am looking for a cheap inexpensive way to make my network wireless for her. Is there some sort of something that I can connect to my router to make it have a wireless signal? I guess I couldbuy a wireless router, and card for my desktop, but I think its spending money I dont have to. The modem will have to sit in another room than my computer and I have 100 feet of Cat 5. So if I could not spend the extra money, I would enjoy that.

Peter: Oh, I thought you wanted us to murder the children and harvest their organs for beer money.

you can buy an access point that you connect to your router through a wired port. however most ap cost as much as the routers these days

if you do buy a wireless router, it would have wired ports on it, and you will not need a wireless card for your desktop

    Thanks all.

I'm not sure what to do. It would be easier for her take her lap top around the house if she had a wireless. The Access Points are expensive. Online prices are cheaper. Any one have suggestions of what to get. I my router is a Linksys. Cheapest one I found is at Staples:

    "Belkin Wireless G DSL/Cable Gateway Router Reg. $79.98 - $10 savings - $20 mail-in-rebate = $49.94
Creates a network in your home or office without cables
Offers backward-compatibility with all 802.11b devices
Nearly 5x faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard"

    Amazon:Linksys WAP54G Wireless-G Access Point Buy new: $79.99

If it says its a "Wireless G" it is the 802.11g correct? Any one have opinons on it. I assume from the price that it isn't THAT great. For the price of a good one, I could just get a wireless router. Do wireless modems come with hard wiring? Any suggestions?

Can I set up a VPN with an access point? (I'll find the post on it later when i'm ready to do it.)
