I'm like that too but with the old floppy disk drive I got back in 1995.

As for upgrades, I'm looking real hard at PDAs. I'm still running my old Handspring Visor Deluxe I picked up about four and a half years ago. Some of the Sony ones are looking real nice. Now only if that tax refund would get here.

Usually I either gave away old computer parts or resold them so I don't have anything older than 3 years. I haven't bought anything worth talking about lately.

The only thing I'm considering is one of those shiny new 10k rpm SATA drives... the 74GB is looking awfully tempting. Would also love a 19 or 20" LCD, but my 22" CRT is still holding strong. However, I'm with you Chosen - they'll be hard to pass up when they fall below $500.

My next upgrade is going to be actually a new computer. I was set to buy a computer last week from Dell and decided to hold off. This week, my DVD ROM is acting weird and my second hard drive pooped out on me again. Now I'm wishing that I had purchased last week's deal. It would have come with a 17" Ultrasharp LCD too. I'm hoping that these deals come monthly along with the 15% coupon.

I figure once I get the new computer, then the next upgrade will be a dual layered DVD burner or if available, a Blue Ray DVD burner (depending on what the specs will be like).

My next upgrade is my new laptop -- once my darn tax return comes in (stupid government -- can't they see I want my money NOW????)

    Here's what I'm getting:

    AOpen 1557GLS barebones notebook
    15" SXGA+ TFT display
    Intel Pentium-M 1.5GHz CPU
    1GB Micron PC2700 DDR memory
    40GB 5400rpm HDD
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 w/64MB dedicated memory
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive
Intel wireless MiniPCI card (I think it's the Pro/Wireless 2100)

The next upgrades for the laptop will be:

120GB HDD in external Firewire enclosure
    Echo Indigo soundcard
8x DVD-Writer in external Firewire or USB 2.0 enclosure

do you think the dual layer DVD burners will be worth it? i mean, the new burner will cost ~$250, the new DVD will cost $4-5. sure, it can hold 8.5gb, but 45mins?! a 8x burner can copy a DVD (4.7gb) in what, 7-9min?

i think i'm just going to buy the NEC 8x at newegg for $90, plus a new 52x cdrom drive for like $20.

    just my 2 cents.
