Athlon xp 2000 only at 1333mhz

my friend gave me an asus a7n266-vm and an athlon xp 2000. Well, he says it's an athlon xp 2000, but the mobo only recognizes it as running at 1333mhz. I know this isn't right, cus I have an athlon xp 1800 running at 1533. I updated the firmware last night and it still only sees it at 1333mhz. It's unchangeable in the bios.

I read in the manual that I can change the mobo to jumperless mode to set the cpu frequency, but I don't know how to do that. I checked on the asus website and I couldn't find anything. Any other suggestions?

The fsb is probably at 100 instead of 133. It may be a jumper or bios setting. The mutiplier is locked unless you alter the chip itself first.

I have an a7v133. It has one jumper to set the soft bios or not. And it has a bank of 4 jumpers to set voltage. On the a7v133 all the jumpers go to the far right positions- to auto-detect voltage or default >?<. (Aspect: with the board output plugs to the left)

Yeap lots of pple don't set the jumper or BIOS setting to 133Mhz instead of 100Mhz (usually default setting).

nope, mine was defaulted at 133. My CPU/Dram ratio is 1:1, they're both running at 133. I'm about to throw this stupid mobo out the window...when I play 3d games with my geforce 2 gts, i'm getting like 5 fps. Before, with the same card, I was able to play games ok. I turned everything off in the video drivers too. Anti-aliasing, all that crap.

Since the front side bus on that chipset is 233, don't you want the bios set to 133 in the first place?

Yeah that's correct. Theyr'e both to the left, which is the default setting. I actually tried 5 different combinations (took both jumpers off too). In the manual it talks about jumperless mode, so that you can manually set the cpu speed. I have no idea how to get to that though.

Rrrr. Flash the bios? If the orig is 1002 0r 1003, one of them wasn't a good'n.

The latest is 1009. The previously mentioned friend is running 1010beta with no problems. ICR exactly which board, but it's a promise raid board.

The other possibility is that the Athlon is remarked. <shrug>

Hey thanks for looking at the manual. Yeah, it has the latest bios. I just updated it the other day, thinking it would solve the problem. Oh well...I guess there's nothing else I can do.

Got a stick of slower ram? See if that will jolt it. I've used that trick to get an Asus to come around.
