Exclamation AIComputers - 50% Off Coupon. Our AI Rep's ICQ#256399925

Has anyone done this yet? This is one of those deals that "Seems to good to be true"

I mean I tried using the coupon code on the Tablet Notebook so I basically pay 700 bucks for a Centrino Tablet.

Shocking! Just want to see if anyone else tried out this deal. But i'm itching to get that tablet

Well, I have been seriously considering an AMD 64 3200+ (and K8V-deluxe MB) for my next system. I configured one with that (no optical drives - I can salvage what I need and have some spare parts), an FX 5700 Ultra, XP Pro, 80GB SATA, and a few trinkets, for $697. It would be hard to touch that package for that price anywhere else. I ordered.

I'm thinking of picking up one of those mini boxes. Already have a 160GB drive from staples.

Problem is I really don't need any more computers. Of course, that's never stopped me in the past.

You can get a Celeron PC for $203 if you delete the HD, the floppy, mouse, keyboard and CDROM and operating system.

Check out the WatchDog section of the May 04 Maximum PC. Interesting item about AI Computers and AIPCS.com. Owner of AI Computers seems to be a bit of a slick talker. Don't know if I would trust them after reading the bit.

Yeah... I already alerted folks to this in another thread, however now... it's "buyer beware at your own risk"...

Apex seems to have an agreement with these folks... so I hope nobody gets burned.

it seems those who are having problems are those who didn't pay by credit card or had their checks bounce. Not a huge ass worry to me as I paid by CC so yeah...

Ditto, paid with Citi Aadvantage (racked up 815 points too ) and got the WS Centrino w/ built-in wireless... including 2yr warranty and no tax to CA

We'll see what happens... Citi ALWAYS grill merchants when it comes to these things, so they'd best not EVEN try anything... But yeah, we'll see

Spend a bit of time, read the complaints. It's worth it for your own peace of mind.

Basically what happened is they hooked up with a bad finance company, which took the deposits and ran. Since they didn't get the money from the finance company, the products didn't get shipped, and it just compounded from there.

They've since cut ties to that company and purchases are handled through credit cards, so the consumer is protected. If the system doesn't ship, you call up your credit card, and your credit card removes the charge. Pretty straight forward. On the flip side, when you do get your computer, you've got a seriously great deal.

All and all, you have to decide what your comfort level is. If you're unsure of your credit card, don't order. It's not worth sweating for 2 weeks over (typical custom system build times).

Oh yea, btw dRu168, the upgrade is $50 minus 50% coupon = $25.

n/m i decided to cancel the order.

I thought about it and saw all the complaints. To me i personally realized it's really not worth the trouble of trying to recoupe the funds if there is a problem.

From my exp. with MC Even the process of a refund takes awhile if they dispute the charge. You will still keep going back and forth with the merchant. I had this happen recently with a local company who wouldn't issue you my fiance a refund credit. Not sure about American Express or Citi Bank's CC policies.

    geez...is that w/ the 50%-off discount?

Some great "looking" deals there and I'm sure some folks will get a bargain, but I'm going to pass on this one. Their pricing with this discount falls into the "too good to be true" category.

May kick myself later when everyone reports what wonderful machines they bought, but I would rather kick myself later than take the chance of getting ripped off. Far too many negatives out there including those referenced here.

I tried to call them just now - no answer.

Anyone been able to get ahold of these guys? I bought a Zalman cooler from them early last week, and no word from them. I have been trying to contact them using their email address ([email protected]) and phone - but to no avail.

How is Apex getting ahold of them? So far, the seem to be pretty sketchy.

Are you saying that you cancelled your CC, and had them reissue new #?? I don't know if I would go that far yet. I have not been charged yet for the order, so I am not sure what Amex could do at this point. I just want to get ahold of them and figure out what is going on.

Yes. It sucks, but the good thing is i don't use this CC much. It's primarily for internet orders.

dunnry: Yes, for that amount of money i feel it's worth it. I don't want to dink around with a company who has 1K+ of my money.

I think i read somewhere that apex explained that the company has been having phone problems... that may explain why you cant get through.

  27. #27
Seems to me that if Apex believes their line and enough so to post this deal, the folks at that company could come aboard with a bit of reassurance as to the validity of their business. Maybe this is their shot at redemption and an attempt to establish some credibility but given their past history, excuses seem just that. Apparently phones aren't working properly and EMAIL isn't working properly - this from a company that builds hi-tech computers???

I would like to be wrong. I would also like to take advantage of their great offer, but caution dictates otherwise.
    Whut?

  28. #28
FYI, the AI homepage says, "Free Shipping! available on all systems *as originally configured." So, if you change something in the system, no free shipping. I put my order in though! I'm feeling daring, and hey, if it doesn't work out, just call up my CC company and they get rid of the charge. I've done it before and they're really good about taking care of things like that.

Although I do find it strange that they don't answer their phones and their tech. support # is disconnected... Maybe they're really busy?
