    Oh for pete's sake.

He wasn't the president the GOP wants to rewrite him into being, but he wasn't any more evil then Clinton. Nor that much different, really.

Yeah, but he sure didn't get as "hounded" as Clinton did...

I guess he just had better folks covering his butt.. <cough> Ollie North </cough>

Oh well... RIP Ronnie, may your memories of happier times return to ya.

A great man who made the world a better place. Not just an American hero, but an inspiration for the entire world. Reagan will be truly missed.

It was his stand against the Soviet Union that brought an end to what was truly an "evil empire". He was a great man, and a man of great morals.

I think a million hard-core conservatives just died a little inside.

And Apex, what's up with my Howard Dean being gone? Did the Administration get to you, too?

See, there it goes. He wasn't a great man. He did good in the world, but he did some pretty crappy things too. He was a president, who died in a really sucky way. Making him better th an he was is just as bad as making him out to be satan.

You did your best, though, so take it easy, Gipper. Now go haunt GWB and tell him to pull his head out.

Apperantly zenbooty, canta, and quite a few other on this board can't figure out that their political views and comments need to be kept to the politics forum.

Me perhaps? Yeah, no surprise that it happened, but it still sucks to lose a personal hero.

It's just sad that people can't show some respect to the dead, even if they disagree.

I show respect. I know he was a conservative icon, and even though his views were generally 180 degrees in the other direction from mine, I'd never be happy to hear he was dead.

I didn't realize he was 93, though. Wow. The man lived a nice, long life.

I wasn't talking about you, sorry to make it seem like I was.

And yes, 93, a good long life accomplishing much.

True. Alzheimer's and autism have to be, in my mind, the hardest problems for family members to deal with, because in both cases there's a tendency for emotional distance. How terrible is it to think that as he was dying and Nancy was comforting him, Ronnie was asking her who she was or something? Ugh. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

It is a shame that his mind deteriorated like it did at the end. Nancy seemed like a sweet lady and so I feel bad that she had to see her man like that. When I was a kid I didn't know squat about politics but I always thought he was kind of cool. It wasn't until I got into college that I learned about his administration. However although I didn't agree with many of the things he did, I still maintained some respect for him. I hope that now he is at peace, and I hope that his family can have some peace as well.

Yes it is. My wife's grandmother passed away in December after coming down with Alzheimer's 7 years ago. It was hardest on her eldest son, my Father-in-law, since he and my Mother-in-law were the primary care givers for her. She was in a nursing home for 2 years and then hospice care for over 2 years and one of them would be with her 5-6 days a week for 4-5 hours a day. They would feed her, take her around outside, take her to the park, etc. She started forgetting to speak english and would respond in dutch about a year before she passed. They couldn't have any pictures around her because she would cut/tear them up (she couldn't remember who they were in the pictures so she would get upset for about 5 minutes). Alzheimer's is one of the most cruelest diseases of all.

As for former President Reagan, Rest in Peace. He certainly was not the greatest president, but definitely not the worst. I do think that he was a good man no matter what I or anyone else thought of his politics.
    I think over again
    My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.

And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:

To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.

    -old Inuit song
