You probably would get better responses on the Softer Side...but you can always just put lemon in your hair and go out in the sun for a while, when you wash it out, it should be lighter according to what I have heard. Never tried it, never needed to or wanted to.

have a friend, preferrably a girl, who has done highlights on someone already, do it.
even a Mom would be a good choice.

but even if you decide to do it yourself, DO IT. i love the look.

if he wants it lightened all over like lemon juice should do, but does a poor job of, he should try some "Sun-In".

Hey, I told him that I never tried it, I was just told that does it. My hair has natural blonde highlights that come out like crazy whenever I go into the sun for an extended period of time.

i did some sort of highlights on my hair 3 years ago, its grown out now (tips are still there). actually it was a "skunk stripe" - i bleached the the center section of my bangs, in contrast to my dark hair. came out nice.
my girlfriend then did it for me - she does hair on the side, and i didnt know how much bleaching agent i needed, plus i didnt wanna kill my hair totally (since its dark hair, getting it bleached essentially kills it).
a year later i did it myself - got one of the bottles you can get at CVS or walgreens or eckerd in the hair color aisle. theres actually a bottle made especially for highlights of shorter hair for men, and i suggest using that first.

my tip? start on a select few areas on your hair first, see how the color comes out. as the word implies (highlight), just do select small sections of the hair first, this way you know how the color is going to come out, and if it doesnt look good, its not going to be as bad (you can cut it out, or color it back).
and be careful not to go more than 1/3 of an inch from the tip. thats not a highlight anymore (more like full hair coloring).

im thinking of going full-on blond or carrot-top red on my long hair, just before i shave it all off....
there are pictures, but no,nothing happens on my site.

so you just kinda brush it over the tips of your hair or what?... or is it more complicated than that?

do yourself a favor and possible disaster and have a professional do it-
homemade hair do's are conspicuously bad-pay the 25 bucks and go to a salon.

Definately goto the salon. It's not worth wasting your money on a home product that will leave your hair ****ed up and make you end up having to goto the salon anyways to fix it. Also, Don't use Sun-In, it will make your hair orange.

Personally, I think it's for girls, but whatever .

i thought the "softer side" was from womens menstrual problems and stuff?... didnt know it was for highlights too. interesting.

i'll probably save the $25 and put it towards lasik next year.

I can hardly stand someone cutting my hair - much less working highlights in.

Rock stars and celerbrities are exceptions. They can do that **** all they want. Rock stars (and Burzhui) can wear tight fitting velour pants. The general public can't get away with that.

absolutely. cept i don't know where you can get it done for 25 bones. it usually costs me fifty after tip. course i've never looked for the cheapest place either. i should. i spent 25 on just a normal haircut yesterday. i totally chopped my hair off. it was kinda long and highlighted. i got sick of messing with it.
