    roommate search thingy(ies)

So I am looking for a place to live in the San Antonio area. Long story short I am getting the boot out of my current place because his little brother is moving in. I looked at efficiencies, but they cost 2/3 of a 2 bedroom, to me it would be smarter to just get a 2 bedroom and live with a roommate. The problem is that I have a small dog (130 LB Great Dane). The point is I need a roommate to save money.

So I am seeing a lot of roommate match places online, such as roommates.com. Do these actually work? I am hesitant to sign up and go through the whole process for nothing and knew I could turn to G|A for advice. How do I know these losers will pay the bills, they are not just going to let me put everything in their name. I also don’t want to have to room with a complete psycho, or a thief that jacks all my sh1t. I am pretty new to the area, and the friends I do have, already have places to live with no open spots. I do not plan to be at home much (I will be home every night, just no trips), this place will more of be a storage shelf for my belongings & dog.

    Why this is softer side:
I am a male, how does rooming with a female that is not my gf work out? I am pretty easy going, but guy roommates tend to be really dirty, and bring nasty hoes back to the place. Also the sexual thing comes into play. What rules can I lay out so her BF is not over every night F-ing her brains out. What are some other problems with having a roommate of the opposite sex, or just female roommates in general?

    Easy... either

    1. Pick an ugly roommate
    2. Find a hot roommate and become her BF.

    Problems.

They are always running around half naked and hang their hose up on the shower stall <sarcasm> I hate naked women

Are you kidding me? So when you're dating a girl, you don't want to be F-ing her brains out every night? Oh wait....you do? You just expect other guys to not want to do the same thing. I understand.

You're just as likely to have a guy roommate who brings his girlfriend home every night to "F her brains out". Living with a roommate, of either gender, is a compromise. If you're not willing to pay the extra money to live alone, then you have to make some sacrifices.

I've lived with 7 different girls in the past 2 years. Pretty much all of them have had boyfriends, so there's an unspoken rule that if you're gonna do it, do it on a night you're not there, but if you can't wait, be silent

I've never had any problems, but surprisingly, girls I've lived with are messier than some of the guys!
    And closer...

lol, you a funny (wo)/man. It is not that I mind that, but come on, he has a place to live too. I don't mind the having sex as long as they follow skiAtomic's rules: preferably don't do it when I am home, or just mainly when I am trying to sleep, and if you are going to do it, be quiet about it. The point is I just dont want her BF to be over there all day every day screwing her or not, he is not paying rent.

Not all women are clean. So don't pick a female roommate thinking she'll be clean. cuz they aren't all like that. I personally would get a place and find a roommate instead of trying to moving into someone else's place.

bite the bullet, and live on your own, ALL your own.

seriously, if you dont want the headaches of roomies, steer clear of roomies. you may want a clean one, but who says that person isnt more anal than you? could be more of a pain than a messy one (always on your ass about your own little pile of laundry, etc).

one reason i dont live with anyone, is because im very private, and dont want them in my business, nor do i want to be in theirs. i dont wanna worry if theyre gonna flake out on me with the rent (happens more often than not), or bring in their dramas and their mamas with them, girl OR guy. if i wanna get freakeh with some ho myself i dont want them giving me no lip or look.

i had roommates before, and theyre good friends, but that usually gets in the way of simple rules (no messing/fooling around, rent on time, alternate chores, place upkeep - nightmare!). SO i got non-friends - that was more horror (read: you need to make deep background checks!)
ultimately the place youre renting IS IN YOUR NAME. anything happens to it, its in your name, not theirs. and the burden of collecting rent always is on your shoulder. even if you do get it written down on paper/contract (as you really should), its alwaysd a pain having to wait, or run after rent every month.

so i pay more than i really should, but in place of that i get peace of mind, and total control over my apartment. i can come and go as i please, no one bothers me, i bother no one. i dont have to worry if i get robbed, or be suspectful of people if stuff disappears. peace of mind, imho, is worth the extra $$$.

of course if you still want a roommate, screen them, do background checks, find out where they last lived, ask if they pay on time well, check if they have job security. lay down the rules up front, and HAVE IT ALL WRITTEN DOWN AND SIGNED. you never know what may happen...
there are pictures, but no,nothing happens on my site.

good advice redcolours. the main reason I want a roommate is because for one thing it is cheaper. and number two, It is someone who can help look after the dog If i go out of town, or plan on not coming home that night.

Have to agree, but I have to add this: When my girl roomate was getting her brains F-ed out in the shower one morning and I had to wait for them before I could get clean for work, and then I walked in the shower and it still smelled like sex, I gotta say that was a bit tough to put up with.
