    Scanner Help

My scanner is about 6 years old and is a freaking beast. Not only is it huge, but it doesn't seem to scan pictures well. Everything looks really grainy when I scan it in, even off of some professional quality prints. I guess my question is, do you think that it is my old scanner that is the problem, or how I am scanning or what? If the problem is the scanner, can anyone recommend a not too expensive new scanner?

    Thanks

what are the graphic diffusion settings on scanner set at?? best bet it always to set back to default-I have my HP set on 300 dots per inch and FINE diffusion, with the current intensity as 84-(somewhere between light and dark)check the settings-if possible set to default settings-and try and scan..
scanners are cheap as dirt these days...sams club had a scanner/fax/copier for 89 dollars...don't remember the brand...but I assume that lexmark and other makers of copiers also make scanners and sell them cheaper than you'd find an HP..

I second the vote to just go buy a new scanner...

I've seen HP ScanJet 3670 for like $75... or you could get a ScanJet 3970 for around $100 I paid like $199 back in the day for my Scanjet 4100C...and I'm still using it.

I have a Memorex 48U ultra thin scanner from Staples a few Black Friday's ago for $13 after rebate.

It works GREAT for scanning in homework, etc., but not stellar for photos. Def. get an HP or higher quality if you're doing photo scanning
    And closer...
