    My last week or so...

I have to say, without any reservations, that I absolutely frucking hate moving. My wife and I received the keys to our new place on June 28th and have basically been moving non-stop ever since then. I would say that we only have 65% of our stuff into the new place and yet are completely out of room already. On top of that, Murphys law has been in full effect.

The week we moved, my wife had to go out of town on business unexpectedly.

Two days after our satellite system is installed we get a letter from the homeowners telling us that we have to move it. It takes me 5 days to get in touch with the installer who then wants $85 minimum to come out and fix what he did. (In his defense, neither of us knew that we couldnt place the dish where we did). Add onto that the cost of a stand ($90) and suddenly half of our savings over cable are gone. (I think I have gotten around this expense, so long as I can get the dish to have a signal)

The new bed we bought is somehow 2 - 4 inches smaller than the frame that has housed 3 same sized beds without any gap. The store said that it was a correct sized bed and that was the result of slight discrepancies among manufacturers.

When installing a closet unit, the wall decided to eat my 1/4 drill bit. No clue why, it just broke it off. It nearly claimed another bit in a different spot until I went and bought some new titanium bosch bits. (quite nice) This time it gave me some resistance in the area of trouble but ate through it anyway.

The rooms all have some shape issues which makes organizing them difficult. For example one corner of the room is taken up by a fireplace that cuts into the room. (Think right triangle with the hypotenus being the glass) This meant that I either had to block the fireplace with the entertainment center OR block it with the couch (what we did). On top of that the phone and cable jacks are no where near where I would want them. This required some interesting wiring on my part.

The DSL install date was changed without notifiying me. On top of that, once it finally went "in" it has already been spotty. (I was using dial-up for the last few days, hence why I wasnt really around.)

I discovered that my wifes archaic laptop had developed another problem (the cd-rom no longer works) the list of problems seems to outweigh its usefulness at this moment.

We are also discovering that a lot of our belongings just wont fit in this place. We were really worried about the size to begin with but decided to go with it because it was the largest unit we found and was a good price with the features we required) I can honestly say that we didnt see anything that was larger with similar features for less than $1500/mo so this was a relative steal.

A bunch of my wifes furniture was in need of repair/ TLC before being really useable. Three pieces need to be refinished and two drawers need to be rebuilt as the people who originally helped my wife move dropped them and broker them.

I could keep going, but I wont.

To top it all off, we head to Vegas for a week on Sunday so there is another time crunch. We also need to secure a ticket for my wife to Philly. The airline is having issues crediting her frequent flyer miles due to her name change and as such delaying our use of her free ticket. And I still havent found a phish ticket for the Camden show.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

Considering the luck you're having, you probably just drilled through a drain pipe & sewage will now be leaking into your closet.

Sorry things aren't going smooth for you. And why did the stand cost so much for the dish?

Nah nothing came flying out at me. The problem is that the closet has one of its walls as an exterior wall. My guess is that the issue results from that. However, it wasnt masonry and didnt sound like metal so I have no idea what the heck it was.

As for those who say dont scare them.......may your move go smoother than mine. I am sure part of the problem has to do with the fact that we seem to have 2 (or more) of everything. When my wife first moved in with me we just put all of her stuff in the garage in boxes. If she needed something we would take it out but the majority of her stuff remained boxed up for 4 years. (We werent married at the time and it was supposed to be temporary)
On top of that as children of divorce, we both had twice as much stuff as usual and we are both sort of packratish. (She is worse)

I got to know the Goodwill, Salvation Army and AmVets by first name by the time we were done moving from a 2000 sq.ft rental to a 1250 sq.ft house with no garage On the plus side, we got rid of a TON of crap.
