Pro's and Con's of Deisel?

I'm looking at a Jetta TDI. The only thing is, I know jack about Deisel engines.

Do they require different things from a regular gas engine (other than fuel type of course)?

Any info helps.

Pro: Great gas mileage, engine lasts near forever.

Con: VERY poor throttle response, low hp, different maintenance schedule (compared with gas burning), really stinky for the person behind you, soot on rear bumper.

Yeah I hate black bumpers, although I am going to get a black one.

I'll probably end up with a gas one. I heard the gas GLX gets 49 mpg.

Doesn't the Jetta get a 10 year warranty too?

Of course, for short/small people like me, climbing into my dad's huge diesel truck certainly made me feel POWERFUL!
