Norton Ghost with or without Systemworks?

    On Ebay:

NORTON SYSTEMWORKS PRO 2003 w/ANTIVIRUS + GHOST costs $13 with shipping. The stand alone Ghost 2003 goes for much more. What is the difference? Also, I don't want to install the other Norton &%$#, only the Ghost.

Is the Ghost included in Systemworks Pro 2003 crippled, or "Ghost lite" version?

The Ghost in Systemworks Pro is a full version of Ghost... and will do everything that the stand alone version will do.

Personally, I like the SW Pro suite... I use the "Speed Disk", "WinDoctor", and "DiskDoctor" quite frequently in addition to using Norton Antivirus...

But if all you want is Ghost, then that's all you would have to load from the disk... it should work fine for you.

Get Systemsworks Pro 2004 for FREE after mail in rebates from Staples!

One rebate is for upgraders, but that is easy to qualify for if you have any antivirus or firewall. All you need is to either send them the disc or the front page of the manual or a receipt to qualify- and they are pretty prompt on sending them out. Expires August 7th (just need to buy by then, you still have time after that to send the rebate, just make sure you print them out before the 7th).

On the 2002 Systemworks CD, you can easily install any of the individual components without installing all of the garbage. Just go to the proper directory (for example, NAV is the Norton Anti-Virus directory). Right click on the .MSI file & choose 'install'. This installs NAV without making you install any of the Systemworks core files.

They disabled this feature in the 2004 edition, but I haven't tried 2003.

A few questions about the upgrade rebate:

    1. is a PHOTOCOPY of the receipt OK, or is an original needed?
    2. Can I send in an OEM of McAfee AV or is it retail only? (I assume retail only)
    3. Cash register receipt only -- for example an AVG Grisoft e-mail receipt is no good?

    Thanks!

For the "upgrader" rebate, you send in a copy of your receipt... not the original...

Also, for the upgrader, you have to send in some proof of your prior purchase... the actually disc of the qualifying program OR the first page from the book that comes with the disc.

If you have questions about what items you can send in to qualify, then I'd highly recommend that you call the 1-800 number that is included with the rebate form and ask the folks at Symantec directly. Hearin' it "straight from the horse's mouth" is definitely better than just taking our word for it...

Sweet deal... you should post that in the "Got Deals" forum.

I found the $30 upgrade rebate form here:

    This is what you need:
    4. Enclose proof of previous ownership of a stand alone or pre-loaded version of any Norton™ or Symantec™ software product or any retail (boxed or downloaded) software product from McAfee® or OnTrack® (excluding pre-loaded or OEM software from McAfee or OnTrack). Proof of previous ownership submission requirements: a) Previous owners of retail (boxed
or downloaded) product must enclose either the previous product’s original CD, diskette 1, title page of manual, or your confirmation email from your previous download purchase. b) Previous owners of pre-loaded (OEM) Norton or Symantec software product must enclose a copy of the previous product’s Help/About screen. To obtain a copy of the Help/About screen, follow
    these instructions:
    1. Go to the Help/About screen in your pre-loaded Norton or Symantec software.
    2. Select the tab with your Norton or Symantec OEM product name listed.
    3. Press the Print Screen (Print Scn) key (located on your keyboard).
    4. Open any word processing application.
    5. Paste the image (go to the Edit Menu at the top navigation bar, scroll down and select Paste).
    6. Print the image (File > Print).
    7. Enclose this copy of the Help/About screen with your rebate submission.
Keep a copy of your submission for future reference. Originals submitted become Symantec property and will not be returned. Valid only in the U.S. and Canada. International submissions are not valid. Limit one rebate per name, address, household or company.
