A friend of mine is recommending it. I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy series games, and he's saying it's similar. It got some insanely good reviews online, so I was wondering if anyone here had played it and had any pros/cons.

I definately recommend it. Graphically it is great (was excellent at release, but with Doom III and Halflife 2 coming out its good to err on the cautious side), has an excellent interface, compelling storylines, and its just all around fun. Even better, you can probably find it at Fry's nowadays for under 20 bucks, since its about a year old. Doesnt get much better than that!
Hell, for $20 I'd be willing to take a shot. Is it anything like Baldur's Gate 2? I enjoyed that one.

I think you can get it with the expansion packs pretty cheap now. I thought it was a great game. Not really like the Final Fantasy games (which I like as well), but it gets you involved in the same way.
Neverwinter Chests? Ya I played itIt's a great game, except for all those damn chests!

Great game. Nothing like the Final Fantasy series though. Its great if you enjoy games based on D&D and its system.
Ya, and unlike DOOM 3 it plays on my Mobile Radeon 7500 and 1.4ghz p4 great!

It is a really fun game...kinda easy the first time through though, since I played a paladin-and they are just about undamagable late in the game.
I was actually thinking of picking up the expansions off half.com.
BTW: If you are looking for a great computer game that IS like Final Fantasy, check out Grandia II. It's another bargain binner, but is very fun, and has a great timed/turn combat system, even better than FF8.
Five years...
The third expansion, Hordes of the Underdark, is fabulous. By the time I was done, the game felt so epic I felt like a god. I beat it four times consecutively with different characters. You can, however, get seriously overwhelmed with choices on characters and leveling.
Careful where you extend your hand. You may pull it back bloodied.

Yeah, I had the most fun with a Theif. You need a good fighter support character as they are a little weak in the beginning, but by the time you get a few levels going, it's great being able to explore anywhere in the game (lockpick) and you can kill anything with a sneak attack and backstab.
I loved the game.
I prefer to play as a half-elf ranger. Chaotic Neutral. I think next time I'm gonna try to be an evil magician. That's gonna kick ass, except when I have to fight...
