Accord A/C. . .

Anyone know where and how much I can get an A/C system (compressor also) including installation for a '94 Accord? Or at least how much I should expect to pay so the dealer won't rip me off?

Oh man the dealer is going to rip you off for that. If it's done privately it will go anywhere between $700-$1100 depending on the quality of the compressor and how good the warranty is. Is there an old refrigerant system in there now or starting from scratch?

It's usually cheaper to have the cars done from scratch. I would go with a private place you trust as if you get an el cheapo dealer it will probably leak or die withing a couple of years.

Well, there was an A/C in the car but the previous owner pulled it out to squeeze more power (and reduce weight) of the car. He's got most of the parts he is giving back except for the compressor. I was just wondering if it'd be a better idea to start from scratch or put everything back in.

Actually no, it doesn't look like much, but he used to race it professionally on the tracks. . . inside it's got a Prelude 2.2i Vtech motor with a lot of goodies. No funky wing (which pushes down on the rear, however adds lift to the front of a FRONT wheel drive vehicle and REDUCES power), and no funky colored lights and stickers (oh wait, one funky "Upgrade" sticker). yeah, when I got the car, he gave me like 3 boxes of stuff like the seats which he pulled as well as the carpet and paneling -- again to reduce weight. So I've got the fun job of putting it back together! At least it's fun to drive 8-)

I have done a bunch of work on this kind of thing before, as well as worked with pro mechanics. The thing with doing an A/C on it again is this... it will break down. It really sucks. I was going to put A/C in my G/Fs car, but decided not to. I see the damn aftermarket A/Cs break down way too much. Anyhow, thats just my 2cents.

Hmm, so you'd not suggest getting an aftermarket A/C? Well, I've got everything but the compressor (I know that's a big part), so how hard is it to put back together if I have everything stock (except again, new compressor)?

if you have the knowhow and the desire, i would say try to install it yourself. the dealer or a mechanic are going to charge no less than $600. if you can do it with a chilton's guide or something, that will totally be worth it whether it breaks down or not.

Alright, then anyone know where I can get an OEM Honda compressor or a comporable one? Carparts.com doesn't carry that for the accord. And how much is retail so I don't get ripped off?
