I'm thinking of getting a CD Player from the Kenwood Excelon series. Like many other brands out there It has a motorized face plate that rotates and hides itself when you turn the car off and opens up when you start the engine again. The advertizing says "Rotating Face Plate provides additional security."

Is that true? Does it really look like the face plate is detached when it's hidden? Won't car thieves just know by looking at it and take it? Any experience people?

If we're talking about the same thing, it just rotates and looks like a black panel. I've never really thought that was especially secure...because the panel is shiny, unlike most interiors in cars. So if a thief is looking for something to steal, instead of a normal face, he'll just look for a shiny panel!
I say, just go for something you like. A stereo thief is going to steal something if he really puts his mind to it.

only if i had that kind of attitude.

I agree, as long as you dont advertise the deck (show it off to every person you meet) you should be fine.

I have a JVC El Kameleon CD player in my car and you do not notice the reflective properties of the panel from outside the car. I love the thing! It is much easier than having to remove the faceplate from my old CD player!

I'm just a little paranoid because the neighborhood I live in isn't the most peaceful place you'll see. One of my friends used to take off his face plate and keep it in his glove compartment. A thief still broke in anyways even though the face plate was off and searched the car for the face plate. Dang...I want to move.
