    NSS: Promo and Raise

Got a promotion and a raise last thursday that was effective retroactively back to August 2nd. I was in the middle of a bar in NJ (on vacation for a friend's wedding) when my boss called from California to tell me.

So far so good...they took the step of putting something out on the table for me, but that's not stopping me from interviewing with a record label tomorrow

Actually, no. I told my boss the day before I left for vacation that if there wasn't at least some preliminary offer on the table by the time I got back from my vacation, I wouldn't be returning in September. I gave them an ultimatum and they came back with something, though I'm going to negotiate for more.

lol. he's got no mortgage or kids. it's a lot easier to issue an ultimatum that way.

which also means you're a more valuable employee (resource) b/c they know they can work you into the ground (b/c you don't have kids/mortage issues to worry about)

I was given a 30% salary bump, but I'm aiming upwards of 75%.

And yes, they work me into the ground. The few of you who have spoken with me in the past 6 weeks know my story.

Did I mention my boss is gone for the week and I am literally my entire division. HA

Yeah, you should see the amount of stuff I have to do. I really think I should have done some work from home...it would certainly make the next 3 days of my life easier.

Status update: My boss and I will be sitting down today to discuss my future responsibilities. Basically my concern is simple. If he wants me to do a manager's job and maintain a manager's responsibilities, he has to compensate me accordingly. For the past 2 months, I have been doing a Manager's job on top of the job I was hired to do. I have already been approached by another group's CFO to discuss the changes with the merger etc and how much everyone appreciates the work I have done. Pep talks are hilarious.

2nd: The other Sr. Financial Analyst (we were both promoted at the same time) has gotten a job with WB doing the EXACT SAME THING that I do, less the Manager's work, for more money. I know what he's getting paid, so I need to address that with my supervisor as well.
