Well, just finished my heat of the tournament, and I have to say that it was the worst server I've played on in quite some time. Anytime that college LAN pings worse than my modem at home, you know there's a problem.
I realize that the server's on the west coast (as I'm on the east coast) and that may be the cause of the problem (and indeed, the winner of my heat was the only player in it with a decent ping), but maybe next time the server should be in the middle of the country so it's a more equal chance for everyone.
I appreciate what was attempted with the tourney, something to give back to the community and all that.. but truthfully, the random drawing was a better test of quake skill =P
Possibly stick to something less latency-intensive next time, like a starcraft tourney?
