whoah boy.....there's a lot of detail left out here.
If you've got one form of spyware, more than likely you've got several others hiding on your machine as well.
I can verify that these programs are helpful in getting rid of spyware: adaware, spybot, hijack this. Other programs you may have (but failed to include) may actually be spyware in disguise. Try downloading the mentioned programs, run the updates and do a full search of the hard drive in safe mode.
Get yourself to an antivirus site (I use http://security.symantec.com) and run an online virus scan.
Post what's in the following registry key:
HKey_local_machine>software>microsoft>windows>currentversion>run
You may need to delete a few entries here.
Clean out temporary internet files.
Go to add/remove programs and look for anything you didn't intentionally install. If you're unsure if it's spyware, google it.
check for any active x objects that have been installed on the computer. Go to internet explorer>tools>Internet options> on general tab, click on the settings button under temp internet files> click on view objects button. right click on each installed object and select properties. Look at the address of each one. If it looks unfamiliar or suspicious, delete it. You can always reinstall it by visiting the site again.
Run windows updates and apply all security patches.
Open task manager and look for anything suspicious that's running in the background. Google the processes and see what it turns up. if google can't find it, end the process.

That's part of it. Other reasons are built-in popup control, extensions that add really nice features like Adblock (I hate ads), and tabbed browsing.
These days, if I find a site that absolutely needs IE to display correctly, I go elsewhere.
I don't know if you use Google Toolbar, but the ad blocking sounds just like it.

Further, Firefox has a search box next to the address bar that you can add your own search engines to. I've added several - Dictionary.com, MySimon, Ebay, Yahoo Shopping, Amazon, and I tweaked an ISBN.nu title search one to let me search for ISBNs instead. Try that with IE.

In WinXP SP2 this is built into the browser.
I'll still stick with Firefox. The extra features are very handy.
I'm not exactly an advocate for IE, but View->Toolbars->Uncheck "Google Toolbar" reduces the clutter quite nicely...
You could also drag it so that it lives right next to your address bar, with just the search box showing...

Viruses are being created especially for IE. Someone will create especially for Firefox.

Once you use firefox, you'll never go back to IE. That is how wonderful that browser is.

Don't agree at all.. I have FireFox, Opera, and IE. IE still works better with the majority of sites than the other two. I just say answer 'No' to activex controls trying to get installed, which only happens on questionable sites to begin with.
Opera comes in a close second, and FireFox is WAY behind. It has terrible standards support... people say IE is bad, but IE does a much better job rendering sites with HTML errors than FireFox. DHTML sites work better under IE and Opera as well. FireFox has some cool ideas, it just needs a lot more work.
