STARCRAFT 2

For those of you that have played through Starcraft and Brood Wars what do you guys think will or will there be a starcraft 2?

I thinking that the great balance or races that startcraft has might be tipped by the predicting hybrids. i mean look at kerigan she is a prelimnary mix and she is sooo powerful. I think the various mixes of Duran are going to overpower all the regular breeds...

What are your thoughts?

BTW Starcraft is the best game .. great gameplay and excellent plot only flaw I feel is that selecting 12 in group is not enough for groups of combat units like zerglings.
i think a number should also be put on the unit like other games to make it easier to see which is which

There prolly will be a starcraft 2, but not for a really long time. Blizzard hasn't even begun developing it yet.

I think it would be cool to be able to group more than 12 units too like in command and conquer, but that would drastically change the original gameplay of Starcraft. It takes some skill to manipulate groups limited to 12.

The reasoning Blizzard gave for limiting groupings to 12 (and thus this reasoning became the war cry for all those other RTSes made since) was that it was done that way to hamper rushing...

Ha! look for it in about 3 years or so. Geez they haven't even finished Warcraft 3. That's probley where most of there effort is going.

My point? Blizzard spents googles amount of time to make great games that people keep playing for years. Honestly, do you want a company like Activision who spits out crap, buggy games left and right, or a company who spends quality time to make a great game?

speaking of starcraft, i saw a thing on my travels around the internet that there is a starcraft for nintendo 64. now, i think that it would really suck. the control has got to be really wierd with that joystick instead of the mouse, and there is no keyboard for hotkeys/shortcuts. anyone here play it?

Yeah Starcraft 64 is coming out soon. The original C&C wasn't that bad.. It was the ones that came after it that sucked. I don't care if starcraft 2 comes out in 2-3 years heh I'll still be playing diablo 2 till then!

Blizzard games are far superior. They do not care about meeting Christmas deadlines or time constraints. If something doesnt go well ina game, hey scrap it, and fix it. They also do rigorous testing as you can see from the thousands of Diablo 2 testers.

hehe with the addtion of brood wars and money maps some of the balance is taken out but for the most part all races has thier strenghts and weaknesses =)

Answer: Starcraft...that was easy...this game is retarded; i have abhorred it ever since it was first released, and i even liked warcraft and warcraft 2; this game had horrible graphics, horribly imbalanced gameplay, and crappy cinematics. i must say that i was very disappointed.

Answer: only tiberian sun; the rest of them are always being played (except maybe dune 2000 which fits the same category as warcraft I, except that there is still a small dune community) on the westwood server and all of the other third party vid game channels

ok, now for your answer; blizzard is not working on a starcraft 2, but they are working on a somewhat (not very though) similar type of space strategy game, but they have yet to give it a name, and my friend who works for them isn't willing to explain it all yet. it looks like blizzard realized that the only reason starcraft got anywhere was because it was built on their strong reputation; they got lucky, and the game was a piece of crap. hopefully this new game will be more like command and conquer or total annihilation, but with warcraft's 360 degree observer rotation.

hmm... What part do you think is imbalanced? a group of us play it and we randomly choose the race and depending on enemy's action we would counter with our own races counter unit. It is one of the most balanced game I have yet to play. games like Warcraft and RA just can't compare because in Warcraft units don't seem to have counter units and the walking AI sucks (units gets stuck all the time) (btw talking about war1 and 2) in RA it is not too bad but the odds are very unfair expecially when the upgrades to the game came out.

Back to Starcraft being unbalanced please state what type of unbalance have you seen???

I find the graphics to be acceptable. it might not be stunning like AOE but gameplay is what people look for. units are easily reconizable and cinema is dramatic enough. I think you have to play it more to actually like it. play both single and multiplayer... also try not to get creammed because i know that after a few times of getting buttkicked will make a game suck but this game takes some getting use to... i sugest playing a island map and at a slower setting so that you can enjoy it more....

almost everyone I talked to loves Starcraft so I truly think it deserves a second look...

StarCraft isn't my favorite game, but I know it can be addicting. In my opinion, it's very balanced, but it requires totally different strategies when playing each race. If you try to play all 3 the same way, you're as good as dead.

Btw, did anyone find Total Annihilation to be unbalanced as hell? When i played the computer, all I did was build guns galore and the computer couldn't touch me. Heck I won the game by building guns.

Starcraft is definitely my favorite rts out there. I would LOVE to see a new sc come out, preferably updated just like they did to warcraft, with 3d and cool new races. Knowing blizzard, it'll be just like that :-). Hears hoping at least ... and until it comes out, d2 will keep me busy ....

No there is a Gundam total conversion out there. Search for "starcraft total conversion" and you might find it. Also there's a Star Wars and a Star Trek TC in the works.

Those guys that say starcraft is unbalance are just angry for some reason or other. They probably just lost at the game. My opinion ist that the Interface for starcraft is the most important factor. Ever since warcraft II the interface has rocked! Starcraft is the icing on the cake. The waypoint command is awesome, the ability to judge health and shields without individually selecting units, hotkey interface are all great. About the 12 unit thing...that is a drawback but it's weighed out by being able to see what's going on for those 12. Another drawback is only having so much numbers to save groups to, BUT YOU CAN'T BLAME BLIZZARD FOR THAT!!

Conclusion, the most amazing thing of any game, Homeworld, Myth, Starcraft, Warcraft II, X-Com (for you old school gamers), Halflife, quake, is interface. Without it, a gamer can't even use strategy or tactics, because the interface is too complicated and hampers the strategy. Right now my opinion is that Warcraft II has the best gameplay, it's SO simple you can use any strategy easily, this is despite the fact that there's only one level of terrain, and limited sea an air units. You still get allot of bang for buck.
Sorry, for writing so long i got allot to say, and they're only good things abot starcraft and warcraft!!!!

By the way, sticking to topic, I think we will probably hear about a starcraft 2 game mostly because developers try to get money off a good success by using the title. Personally i don't think there's much to play with anymore, plotwise, but i guess it's too soon to tell. Another thing good about starcraft and especially warcraft II is there effort to put a plot into the game. I personally didn't really like those inside building missions, even though it advanced the plot. I really like all the cinematics, and if you ever actually read the stories in the manuals, they are really interesting stories. Hopefully in the future the art of combining story with game will be allot more fluid and innovative.

My roomate plays roller hockey at the Irvine rink. This guy is totally addicted to SC. Anyhow, some Blizzard employees formed a team and plays in the same league as my roomate. They told him sc2 is currently under development.
