Best day of the week to ask for your job back?

I need to send an email to my HR contact at the company I co-op (intern) with soon, basically requesting another term at their company before I graduate.

Sending it at 4:00pm Friday would probably be bad, and sending it at 8:00am Monday might also be bad too. What day of the week or time of the day should I send a request like this? Does it even matter?

Monday, at 1:16 pm. No sooner or later, or you'll never get the job.

    Monday afternoon seriously.

Monday or Tuesday around 2 pm. That way it's still early in the week, so you can expect a decent response time, and it's after lunch.

    Question 2:

Let's say the HR contact's name is Betty Smith. I've been in contact with her by first name when I worked there before, but it has been a year since then.

    Do I write,
    "Dear Betty:"
    "Dear Betty Smith:"
    "Dear Ms. Smith:"
or one of those using a comma?

    Question 3:

Here's my rough draft for the e-mail:

    Dear __________

I am a co-op student from Virginia Tech, and my last co-op term with M/A-COM was the fall of 2003. I am a senior now in Electrical Engineering. I am writing to inquire about returning for a co-op term starting in January for my spring semester. Having worked in Systems with Rick XXXX and Blake XXXX on my last term, I would like to see about returning to work in their group once again. If that is not a possibility, I would be interested in working in another group within the company that would have need for a co-op this spring.

I would appreciate it very much if you ____________________

Thank you very much for your time.

    Sincerely,
    ski

The first blank is for Question 2, and the 2nd blank is trying to figure out how to word what I want her to do. Any suggestions of what to put?

That looks good to me, you could also try to maybe do it in person?

Might not look to professional coming from somebody named ski

well I changed from my real name to ski for posting purposes
I called to talk to her in person about it, but she requested that it be in email form so she can forward it to departments.

    Forget "Dear"

I have always addressed people just by their first name once I start working with them.

    HR Person's Name,

I am a co-op student from Virginia Tech, and my last co-op term with M/A-COM was the fall of 2003. I am a senior now in Electrical Engineering. I am writing to inquire about returning for a co-op term starting in January for my spring semester. If that is not a possibility, I would be interested in working in another group within the company that would have need for a co-op this spring.

Perhaps we could setup a time to discuss the opportunities available.

Thank you very much for your time.

    Regards,

    haha i know

See that is what I hate, important things like that I prefer to do in person, cause you can make a impression. Emails are so faceless, I guess I have a little old school in me, but an email is great, but I would think a hand delivered letter plus face to face time does the trick better in certain situations.

    Initial success!

"Thanks, ski, I will forward your interest on to Blake's group, as well as the others. I'll let you know.

    Thanks!
    Betty"

i would have put in a bit about "per our phone call" so that the peeps she sent it to would know that you had taken the initiative to call.

    looks good though.
yeah, pretty much we missed the boat on that one. but it's still here. get you some.
