So I got the bug this morning and wondered if my P4 1.6A would work in my Dell400SC (a i875 board, that should not accept 400MHz CPUs). I figured it would run it at 533 or not at all. To my surprise, it didn't even give out an error or anything. It just ran the 1.6A like it belonged there. (@400MHz)

Yes... the i875 board is backwards compatible with all 2nd generation P4 chips (478 pins).
But of course, it won't handle any 423 pin P4s...
That is one of the nice things about them... if you can afford to wait for the "higher end" stuff... you can just get by on low end stuff and build up the rest of your system.
