What I don't understand is that since all the "good spots" will be taken soon, and the system relies on more and more people coming to join the line, there's no incentive to join if you're going to get a "bad spot" ... this will die out just like the rest of them.

Well, if they keep getting people to come it won't matter what spot i'm at. These are really the only way to get referrals in an orginized matter. This site will not just "die out" because as long as they have sites out for free stuff, there is always someone to sign up under you. Also if they come out with a new free site, (which they will) everyone that already did the others will do that site through the conga also. If its a big site and gets tons of traffic, it will work.
