How can I word this on a Christmas card?

Instead of buying everyone at the office a gift, I used the money to buy presents for an underprivledged child. How can I tastefully let them know the reason I'm not getting gifts, without seeming to toot my own horn? Would it be better to offer no explanation?

    something like this, maybe:

in lieu of a gift, a donation was made in your name at the salvation army's angel tree (or whatever), to buy a gift for a needy child. merry christmas!"

There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire. The other is to gain it.

I have a zero budget, so I think we are going to do a white elephant game, if I can find one that sounds fun, then I think I'll print up some of the song games I've posted here.

not really. he just made it up and didn't donate anything. he just said he was giving money in their name. however, his boss had to give money away to something and gave him a check to send to the human fund. so he was going to start an actual charity with that name.

George was too cheap to buy gifts for the office, so he comes up with yet another brilliant idea. He hands out bogus postcards to everyone telling them that he has made a donation in their name to the "Human Fund". Of course his plan goes haywire when his boss is so impressed with George that the company wants to donate a $10,000 check to "the fund".
