With a baby on the way, and no gift for the wife, I want to buy a camcorder.

I'm looking to spend under $500, and am begging for recommendations on camcorders.

I have a few MiniDV tapes already, but I'm not sure if MiniDv is the best way to go.

I appreciate the advice anyone can provide.
