Ya I have, on several occasions, received IMs and PMs from random people who have read a thread I started on G|A. It's weird because sometimes it was threads I started YEARS ago.

I have gotten plenty of unsolicited IM's but only a few PM's. Basically, if its someone who is a regular here I dont view it as odd, even if its out of the blue. When its someone I have never heard of, never seen, or just created an account, then I think its kind of odd.
That said, I try to be nice and respond to everyone. If I dont want to respond, I will just say it outright. I'm one of these bad people who leaves his computer on without turning on my away messages. I have come back from cooking myself to find that 5 or more people have tried to contact me. Without fail, they are all long gone and probably think I am a jerk who didnt respond. At least I know the truth.

I once IM'd someone here because they did not sound too good. However the "who the hell are you" I got back was enough for me to never do that again.
Oh and I never get random PM's or IM's.
One time when I was searching for something online, I jumped on AIM and asked Nija for help.
Actually, I did just get a weird PM this past week from some guy about a deal or something like that. And SBP and I have a PM tradition going, and even though I don't remember how it started, it's good times.
I've randomly PM'd a few people here, and I've been randomly PM'd. Always involving regulars though.
Same thing with IM's.
