    What to do about Dell....

My brother bought a decked out 700m in September for around $1300 shipped. He started his freshman year at University of Arizona. His computer crashed a month later. He rebuilt it and they sent him another drive. In the meantime he reinstalled XP on the crashed drive and it worked fine without any errors. He then put in the new drive a month later. It crashed again and he doesn't think its the drive anymore. Dell is giving 3 options.

    1) Try another hard drive.

    2) Get a referb

    3) Send back the laptop for a $600 Credit

What do you think we should do here? I think the referb is the best bet. The other option will be to take it up with the credit card company since the laptop was just under 3 months old when it happened.

We have 700m's are work and have had lots of hardware problems with them it seems.

Get a referb. Then..get an AMEX card for these types of purchases.

Amex extends the mfr warranty by an add'l year.

For SURE get the refurb. They'll likely send you a better config that you currently have - that's usually been the case when I've swapped machines with Dell.

AMEX is not the only one who does that. My Gold Visa Debit card from Bank of America does that too. If you have a Gold card it will probobly extend the warrenty.
